yamaneko Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 Baruto is the latest promotion guy to get disqualified. Wow, what a shame. Perhaps the only "hopeful" is a guy who i didnt even have on my original watch list.
Doitsuyama Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Why are so many people so eager to see Hakuho eke out a yokozuna promotion by hook or by crook? Is consecutive yusho too much to ask for to see if he deserves the same rank as Asashoryu? You are way too fixated on seeing yokozuna as Asashoryu's rank which is there to protect. It isn't. Asashoryu is one of 68 yokozuna, and right now quite likely among the top 5 ever. With good odds to get even better on that list. This doesn't mean the 63 yokozuna below him doesn't deserve their rank, and it doesn't have that meaning for the future ones too. Get real.
yamaneko Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 Here we go tomorrow Roho vs. Chiyotaikai the rematch. Any predictions? Both guys are on top of their game right now for the most part. Kisenosato vs. kokkai, another good one.
yamaneko Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 Roho lost to kokkai today, but he is still good for komusubi promotion... Kisenosato got outsmarted by ama. No sekiwake for kisenosato.
Asashosakari Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 No sekiwake for kisenosato. A bit early to say that, isn't it?
aderechelsea Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 (edited) if the Sekiwakes go MK someone has to take their place .... a simple KK should be enough for Kise then. If he is not behind Kokkai by then ... EDIT: Hakuho is starting from scratch officialy .... totally annihilated by Azuma today. Edited September 20, 2006 by aderechelsea
yamaneko Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 I was banking on miyabiyama and kotomitsuki getting kk. In that case, no matter what, no sekiwake for kise, right?
aderechelsea Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I was banking on miyabiyama and kotomitsuki getting kk. In that case, no matter what, no sekiwake for kise, right? exactly .. he would need 11 wins to get an extra spot and that isn't possible anymore.
Asojima Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I was banking on miyabiyama and kotomitsuki getting kk. In that case, no matter what, no sekiwake for kise, right? exactly .. he would need 11 wins to get an extra spot and that isn't possible anymore. Not sure that I would want to be insuring the deposits in that bank! (Laughing...)
Asashosakari Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 That Kotomitsuki sure looked good during the first week, didn't he. (Laughing...)

But your response did not address the question I put forth. Nonetheless, Tochiazuma rendered the promotion question moot today. So, IMHO, the sanctity of the yokozuna rank is preserved until at least 2007...
Doitsuyama Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 So, IMHO, the sanctity of the yokozuna rank is preserved until at least 2007... Well, the "sanctity of the yokozuna rank" appears not to be a long tradition, as the two yusho "tradition" is rather new. Check it out yourself. It indeed is quite questionable if this tradition exists at all since there have been only three really strong yokozuna runs without two consecutive yusho since the Futahaguro incident in 1987. Asahifuji was denied because it was too close to that incident, and I say Takanohana and Hakuho were so young that arguably only a foolproof yokozuna promotion was wished by the powers, to prevent a meltdown and another discussion about promotion standards. Ironically Asahifuji later got promoted with two consecutive yusho despite never again having been that strong as in the first yokozuna run.
Peterao Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 As Asashoryu is rewriting the recording books, he is also rewriting yokozuna tradition. (Laughing...)
Doitsuyama Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 As Asashoryu is rewriting the recording books, he is also rewriting yokozuna tradition. (Yusho winner...) You wish. Dream on.
Asashosakari Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 As Asashoryu is rewriting the recording books, he is also rewriting yokozuna tradition. (Yusho winner...) Well played, one almost gets the idea you're actually serious about the stuff you post.
Asashosakari Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Why would I not be serious? The answer to that question is really something you'll have to figure out on your own. Best of luck!
Peterao Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 That sounds too confusing...I'll just keep convincing myself that I am serious. Thanks for the advice though!
Xris Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 (edited) As Asashoryu is rewriting the recording books, he is also rewriting yokozuna tradition. (Yusho winner...) Yokozuna tradition was not rewritten by Futabayama, Taiho, Chiyonofuji. They are part of yokozuna history, but all yokozunas are not evaluated on the basis of these three ! Edited September 20, 2006 by Xris
Guest Orr Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 As Asashoryu is rewriting the recording books, he is also rewriting yokozuna tradition. (Applauding...) So every next yokozuna must be better than previous one? Its like world records in 100m sprint. There must be the limit somewhere :)
