madorosumaru Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 (edited) We all know that the Great Nipponese Hope, Kisenosato, was recently presented a new kesho mawashi with the image of a formidable Kitty. Now, GNH II, shin-juryo Tochiozan, nee Kageyama, has been given an elaborate new mawashi with a prominent Shamu in its design. A group of 500 fans gathered in Aki City in Kochi Prefecture to celebrate the promotion of local product, Tochiozan, to juryo. At the gala, which was attended also by Kasugano Oyakata, Tochi's shisho, the young rikishi was presented with his first kesho mawashi. Emblematic of Japan's newest hope, the illustration on the mawashi has a rising sun in the background with a whale leaping high out of the water in the foreground. It was designed by a local fan in the hope that Tochiozan would become as giant a presence on the dohyo as the whale is in the ocean. The young hero, of course, responded by saying, "I will gambarize even more so that I can meet the expectations of everyone." His shisho said, "Tochiozan has risen to this level at a record speed, but this is still just a starting point for a [top] rikishi. I would like him to aim for much higher and repay you all on the dohyo." The gathering also marked the beginning of the Tochiozan-zeki Native Son Koenkai. As you may know, rikishi are permitted their own koenkai only after attaining the rank of juryo. The president of the new support group said, "We are here to encourage our favorite son, Tochiozan, and to provide any help necessary for him to reach the goal of yokozuna." Tetsuzukiyama Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Poor Kisenosata...which young man wanna wear something from Hello Kitty... ;-) Bah, that's like a guy wearing pink. Just makes him a bigger man. Shows he has no problems with insecurity.
Bishonohana Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Any pix of Kisenosato's new kesho mawashi, anywhere?? I was wondering how "cute" the kitty was....

Bishonohana Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Thank you, Fay! ;-) I just saw it on another thread (the link you provided). I should have done a search for it before asking... :-/ I appreciated the quick response, though!! (Blowing up furiously...)
sumofan Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Poor Kisenosata...which young man wanna wear something from Hello Kitty... (I am not worthy...) Bah, that's like a guy wearing pink. Just makes him a bigger man. Shows he has no problems with insecurity. Nothing to do with insecurity, but I just think that pink is a hideaus colour. Not just on myself, but virtually always.
kaiguma Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 . . . pink is a hideaus colour. Not just on myself, but virtually always. Ahhhhh, but aren't we all pink . . . on the inside? (I am not worthy...)

Or, he may become hunted for "scientific research" and be sold off as so much meat, much like the whale in these here parts...perhaps a whaling vessel would present a stronger image (I am not worthy...)

Laughed so much at that you made the Happoshu come out my nose (Blushing...) Better than down your throat, eh ;-)
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Tochiozan is now 138kg and was 188cm at the pre-Aki measuring event. He starts his true juryo career against Kobo who can do henka and might well try that against the newcomer on shonichi.

He is pretty muscular even now so fat is most welcome. I hope that he'll be around 145 kg on his Makuchi debut. With his awesome tachi-ai it would be deadly combination. Thanks for keeping us up to date Kaikitsune-san (Applauding...)
Odoriou Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 which young man wanna wear something from Hello Kitty... (Applauding...) ;-) Maybe I should change my avatar into something more masculine. (Blushing...) A dragon? A lion? A bear? Oh, wait - I'll take the most manly animal that comes to my mind: (Blushing...)
aderechelsea Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 look what happens when you give a ferrari to a woman ... but give a car to a sumo fan and look what happens ...
