madorosumaru Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 According to a koenkai representative, plans are being prepared for Hakuho's yokozuna promotion parade to be held in Yokosuka. The parade will proceed on the city's main street from the train station to the central police station, a route of two kilometers. Hakuho will, of course, be riding in a open car. Yokosuka is the hometown of the 9th Miyagino Oyakata (former Komusubi Hirokawa) who had preceded the 10th Miyagino Oyakata (current Kumagatani Oyakata) who is Hakuho's mentor. The port city is where the main Miyagino Koenkai was started 20 years ago. Koenkai president has already discussed the matter with the local police and has received their blessing. Yokosuka is the site of a major American naval base where the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk is currently stationed. At a recent gathering to fete Ozeki Hakuho, Yokosuka base commander Gregory J. Cornish announced that when Hakuho is promoted to yokozuna, he will be invited on the Kitty Hawk for a celebratory event. As for Hakuho, all he could say was "I will gambarize." You darn well better gambarize after all this effort. Photos of the Kitty Hawk
Ryukaze Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 That's sounds well..to put it eloquintly "stupid!" To go through such efort and expense when the man hasn't even been (and again by a very narrow margin very well may not be) promoted to Yokozuna. Talk about "counting your eggs before they hatch." :-S
Fay Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 In this case I have to agree with Ryukaze (Punk rocker...) Or as my grandma always said, you can't sell the bear-skin, until you killed the bear.
Jakusotsu Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 you can't sell the bear-skin, until you killed the bear.Of course you can! That's one of the most fundamental principles of modern economy.
sumofan Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 you can't sell the bear-skin, until you killed the bear.Of course you can! That's one of the most fundamental principles of modern economy. You sell the skin, and then outsource the actual killing and skinning part of the job to a hunter for half the money. But it seems stupid to organize a parade before the promotion. Is Hakuho turning a bit too arrogant too soon? If Asa is in good shape, his chances of winning a yusho are not that good actually.

You sell the skin, and then outsource the actual killing and skinning part of the job to a hunter for half the money. and all after an exhaustive consulting and a pilot study of McKinsey B-) sorry (Punk rocker...)
Kaiomitsuki Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Or as my grandma always said, you can't sell the bear-skin, until you killed the bear. In France we have the same saying ... "Don't sell the bear skin until you killed it"... and we have another one : "Dont put the plow before the ox" or in english language countries : "Don't put the cart before the horse" It seems that Hakuho's Yokozuna promotion parade is already in preparation because they couldn't wait the last day of the Aki basho to organize it ! If Hakuho is the 69th Yokozuna after the september basho. His Heya will not be able to organize the parade in one or two days.
kaiguma Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 (edited) Or as my grandma always said, you can't sell the bear-skin, until you killed the bear. Well, Fay, in light of recent world wildlife events, I'd say Germans should hold off on using that one for awhile - especially if you're in Italy! But we should let you slide because I think you are genuine. :-P It seems that Hakuho's Yokozuna promotion parade is already in preparation because they couldn't wait the last day of the Aki basho to organize it !If Hakuho is the 69th Yokozuna after the september basho. His Heya will not be able to organize the parade in one or two days. While Kaiomitsuki's explanation is the only good one there is, it still made me grimace to hear this news. Sure, they had to plan it in advance, but did they have to broadcast it??? Why not keep it a secret, I mean does this extended tsunatori bid need any more hype than it has already?! Let's remember that last time it was "Hakuho can't choose between one loop or two" and before that "Tochiazuma's support club is sword shopping." Now we have a Yokozuna promotion parade and it just about takes the cake. To play devil's advocate for a moment, I think it was Kitanoumi Rijicho who hinted they would definitely accept a 13 jy this time, have we heard that before? Then he confusingly hinted it would be preferable if Hak doesn't take any losses on his way to Senshuraku (Punk rocker...) HUH? But the first half of that statement makes sense considering Hak's record from January goes: jy, jy, Y, jy. That is amazing stability. If it holds true, no one can deny that Hakuho is worthy of the rank and role. So let's support him. Go Hak! B-) Edited August 25, 2006 by kaiguma
sildan Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 I personally, having been a hockey player and therefore required to be superstitious, intend to continually knock on wood until Senshuraku.
Sashohitowa Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 And what has been the situation with previous yokozuna-promotion ceremonies? Maybe this "frying the pan while the fish is still in the watter" is something usual and should not be counted as act of over-confidence or arrogance..
