You don't seem to like Terunofuji

No, it is "The GOAT" and means "Greatest of all time". There's no such thing as a list of GOATs.
-
"And a familiar name leads the pack", and we all know who it is in this forum. But: It was totally unnecessary to put your name in because you already said it. Thanks a lot for your efforts

And now you jinxed him and he can never fullfill his dream.

Basho Talk - Nagoya Basho 2016 +++ Spoiler Alert! +++

I'm sure that 13-12-11 wins in the Joi pretty much guarantee a promotion. -
Your inablility to read a sufficient clear english sentence is astonishing. I'm not a native english speaker but had no difficulties grokking the meaning of gurowake's post.

I tried to watch Osunaarashi, but it's Facebook, which doesn't show anything if you don't register with the big brother.

It should be "Ozeki ;-) E2 Goueidou", not "Ozeki E2 Goueidou-)", but that's a minor nuisance. The Yokozuna formerly known as Hakuho lost today. Many thanks for your efforts - without them a basho wouldn't be that exiting.

Thank you very much for this statistics, but above are two numbers that make me wonder: 1. Has Harumafuji 3 or 4 Zensho Yusho? 2. 3/2010-5/2011 would be 8 Consecutive Yusho for Hakuho, if I count correctly?

Who excels in high pressure situations is a top athlete? In every match, one (top) rikishi wins and another (top) rikishi loses. -
Wakanosato Retires (This time it's official)

Funny you should say that, as I can't imagine either. Fresh off the press and looking VERY sharp... And on the left you can see an example of someone who didn't invest nearly enough in his suit SCNR -
Promotion/Demotion and Yusho discussion Natsu 2014

Maybe a stupid question: Why is Arawashi save and Tokitenku needs two more wins? -
You really are the Mae West of Sumo-Commentators.

"Henk Aran is back but definitely not hitting it out of the ball park" made my day. You're a sheer genius in inventing these (and have to be a real baseball fan to come up with this). Thanxs a lot

I have glued together the five vids for my own use and while I was at it, I corrected the ratio and got rid of the black frame around the picture. My file is now at ~580 MB and the quality is still alright but nothing to write home about. If somebody points me to private server space, I can upload it for common usage (I am not a subscriber to any file dump place, and I won't change this, but invitations to already existing server space is welcome). I did the same and made (part of) a DVD of it. I have put the VOB on rapidshare and made a LinkList: Samurai Spirit: Sumo All in all the film has 690MB. You can cat the 4 parts together to get the VOB, on Windows there should be utilities that do the same (hjsplit?).

Kaio - should he stay or should he go now
tomayama replied to Jakusotsu's topic in Ozumo Discussions
Personal figure? The accepted / oft discused 'norm' for an ozeki in Japan is 10 wins - and pushing the yokozuna for the yusho. You lower the bar considerably with claiming nine is OK when even 10 wins is a mere two thirds of bouts they will fight. As most fights an ozeki gets are against lower rankers, in theory (although impossible) they will never have to beat one of their own rank or a yokozuna to satisfy this '9' that you deem required of a 'proper' ozeki. Hardly something an ozeki should be able to fall back on. I find it interesting that nobody mentions that the number of yokozuna and ozeki competing has to be included in any formula about a satisfying basho for an ozeki. Assuming that an ozeki should win every third time against a yokozuna and you have five ozekis competing, every ozeki has in average 3.33 losses against the yokozunae and the other ozeki. To fulfill your requirement, they would have to go 8:1 against the lower rankers! And even then you would have some ozeki under 10 wins. Or to tell it in another way: If the weakest ozeki looses to all other ozekis and yokozunas, he has to get a 8:1 of all lower rankers to secure his kachi-koshi, implying that he's really much stronger as them! -
You have be a victim of the illegality of drugs. There would be no drugs related crime if all drugs would be legal. Look at the past: Up until about the fifties there wasn't punishment for the use of drugs, and it was comon practice for doctors to prescriibe the drugs one was addicted to. Morphinism was an illness heavenly related to practicising doctors and war casualtities. The laws changed because the police in the USA had to get an new enemy when prohibition was abolished. The effect of these laws is only to create massive amounts of money for those who are selling the illegal drugs. In Germany we had roughly1% of the population addicted to drugs at the beginning of the twentieth century and there are actually 1% of the population addicted to drugs - only now in much worse conditions because of the illegality. Nobody would have to rob to gain the money for their drugs - especially opiates are in fact very cheap. They cost a lot of money because of their illegality. This high prices give lot of incentives to sell drugs - something which would vanish if the addicted would get their drug over official channels. And in fact there are few drugs which such a bad record as alcohol.

That's blatantly false. He had his outing during the nomination.
-
[Note: not during campaiging] That's a misinformation. His outing was on the day he was nominated by his party. He commented on his homosexuality with the now famous phrase: "Und das ist auch gut so".
-
Just for the curious: Now even german newsmagazine "Der Spiegel" has an article about Asa's punishment online. They sum up the mess quite nicely withhout mentioning the jungyo, but stating that he was suspended for faking an injury. Title is "Gro

I recently came across an old movie from 1937 Atarashiki tsuchi (Die Tochter des Samurai) which has a brief snippet (about 90 seconds) of a basho (honbasho?). Maybe one of the specialists here can tell me who's to be seen? (I don't use any service like youtoube,so this is on my home-server, which isn't online all the time)
