  1. did i miss an announcement about this game being cancelled along with the broadcast? i've entered picks every day but am still at 30 ante, and get no results messages when trying to check is it dead?
  2. and in of those wonderful paradoxes of sumo gaming, Andoreasu will be one of the large group that will break the previous record if he/she manages 8 wins on senshuraku, and could possibly end up with the most points this basho (and therefore alone in #1 all-time), but is already MK at 5-9
  3. my first Makuuchi!! Thank you so much to all hard-working volunteers I will continue to ganbarize right up to sanyaku!
  4. Oh yes, I'm sure it was, just don't give promotions for KK anymore!! :-) ***JOKING*** I really appreciate all the hard work. I'll force my way into Makuuchi with a zensho yusho this time around
  5. Sumo is the name of an SUV made by India's Tata motors http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tata_Sumo
  6. hello, I am going to be going to my first Osaka basho this year, and am hoping for some info on ticketing. i'm thinking of the day-of ticket, is it 2100yen, same as Tokyo? does anyone know how quickly they generally sell out on weekdays/weekends? does it have the same one-time exit rule as in Tokyo? and does anyone know about baby-changing/feeding facilities? It's going to be my big guy's first sumo experience! No internet at home right now. I'll be able to check the replies from work, but probably not be able to reply myself, so I thank everyone in advance for any help they can provide. THANK YOU!
  7. Very sorry to hear the news, Fuji. Best wishes for the future.
  8. I haven't checked all the topics here, so may have missed this reportage, and not sure if this is in the correct section, but... Masaru Hanada, former Yokozuna Wakanohana (37) and older brother of Takanohana has remarried. He got divorced last October, and has now married a 28 year-old former kindergarten teacher from Osaka. The two were introduced to each other by a mutual friend 10 months ago.
  9. similar to one mentioned above 完売 (kanbai) means all sold, in other words, you can't buy!
  10. Kitanofuji was the colour commentator on NHK today, and said flat out that he should not show up tomorrow if he's not (seriously) injured, I'd like to see him continue, but he sure better win.
  11. my view exactly, but think it deserved a mono-ii at least and a tori-naoshi would have been reasonable
  12. perhaps someone can confirm, but I believe I saw Ms. Uchidate in attendance beside the East Shimpan, and it seemed that Kotoshogiku gaver her a good kick when he went flying out. Wonder if Hakuho willl get in trouble for that and did anyone notice Asashoryu giving a strange wave after losing? it seemed at first as though he was lifting his arm to block flying zabuton, but ended up being a wierd wave as in "i know, i know, I must win or retire"
  13. He also said that he would do anything to be allowed into sumo again, and asked for forgiveness/acceptance from the Kyokai, other rikishi and all Japanese people think the chances of that are between zero and zilch
  14. I don't think that's how it works. You can either have your B sample tested at the same lab as the A sample, or you forego your chance to have the B sample exonerate you. I mean, they could still have had it tested somewhere else, I guess, but it wouldn't change the "official" finding based on the A sample at that point. My impression was that the whole "yes, but somewhere else" song and dance was merely intended as a delay tactic, and they didn't realize they were actually giving up their rights that way. that's my impression as well, but it seems strange that they would not understand the procedure at this point in proceedings are you referring to the WADA process in general or the process applied by the NSK?
  15. My farm with all the steaks in it that the three will be sent on the same plane back home. As for other tests, they REFUSED to do them, so that's that, ne.. i thought it was that they didn't want the B sample tested at the same place, but were in favour of doing new tests at a different lab?
  16. Huh (Bearded disguise...) there was some conversation earlier about their visas, but I don't think we got anything concrete about whether the NSK is their sponsor, and if they will have to leave Japan definitely? Now that it appears even Wakanoho won't be charged, it would be interesting to see the three of them hanging around, causing trouble (what if they show up at the Kokugikan on the first day of the basho- as spectators- on what grounds could they be turned away?) I am 99% sure that they smoked, but wish the Kyokai had taken a new sample and done a more open test on it before kicking them out, providing such a test is possible after time has passed
  17. correct. and Musashigawa has been named as Rijicho
  18. yes, after the result the conversation was about if it there was a conspiracy within the Kyokai to provoke his resignation
  19. saw a discussion on tv today speculating that the brothers' tests are to some degree orchestrated by various kyokai members to get Kitanoumi to step down due to his own recreuit's involvement i thought that was an interesting perspective- i doubt the test results themselves would be faked, but is it possible someone would have known that Hakurozan would test positive and arranged the surpise tests without Kitanoumi's knowledge?
  20. Your kid is ugly. There you go. Happy to help. :-O thank you now i belong
  21. I've been subscribed to the SML on and off for 5+ years, and can't remember if i've ever posted anything a look to the left will show that i'm mostly a lurker here as well- though quite a well-read lurker i'm subscribed to the SML now only because I can, with free webmail services now having nearly unlimited storage and easy and effective filter tools to keep my general inbox free of SML or Bench related bickering, but i only check the SML maybe once between basho and occassionaly during i voted "Moderation won't cure what ails the SML, and I'm not coming back anyway" as i see the problem to be just the format of the mailing list. i find it much more convenient to come here and see news, photos, commentary, etc on one page, and everything tidily sorted into topics. the members of this forum also seem to be much more technically savvy, so there is more likely to be links to videos, online news reports, etc. personal attacks and such are present on both forums, but having never been the target of one, it doesn't bother me too much in the conversation on the SML, people are mentioning not being able to post on here even though they are members, or having to "jump through hoops", does anyone know what this is about? as far as I can tell the only hoops to jump through before posting are to sign up, log in and press reply. seems pretty simple to me, not much different than signing in to your email and then pressing reply. is this just a case of laziness/newfanglobia, or am I missing something? edit: i wanted to add that i joined both SF and SML at around the same time, and way back then there was plenty of unique information on both ( i can't remember which had more, but looking at my member # i reckon that perhaps the SML had more numbers and hence more information ?), but now there is simply very little to be found on the SML that does not appear on SF, and very much of the opposite, so it's just not worth the time
  22. High school student when i joined the forum, went through various odd jobs while going through university, finished this year and am starting my career in marketing for a major electronics company October 1 ;-) :-D (excited & scared)
  23. Roho, speaking to reporters outside his heya said neither him nor his brother have ever used, seen or touched it, and is asking for a re-test
  24. well it's the lead on the 11 o'clock news on the TBS news, ahead of the next-day reaction to the surprise resignation of the Prime Minister.... interviewees calling for the resignation of Kitanoumi, which would seem to be a fairly foregone conclusion, I would think honestly, if this happened after the Wakanoho incident, these guys are beyond stupid. as per the discussion about if they might be okay if they are not charged/if there are no written Kyokai rules about it, they might have been let off with a suspension or warning if it were not so close to the Wakanoho incident. As it is so close, they are gone. hopefully they can leave the country without being charged edit: so after the Fukuda news I changed the channel to PuSuma (or however it should be romanized), where former yokozuna Wakanohana is appearing alongside a "joint and beer" emblazoned t-shirt wearing Kusanagi.
