I wish I came up with this wise sentence myself.... .... I can understand japanese fans who see guys like ROHO with capacity though no dignity getting little sad/frustrated/p*** o**. I do too. But our new Yokozuna? For me he can reach highs of Chiyonofuji/Takanahana... well maybe even higher. I don't think isolation of OZUMO to a national matter will help sumo anything. We must remember we do live in a new world where Japan is no longer an isolated island. Any tries now to keep sumo all japanese because there are too good foreign wrestlers would be a BIG surrender. Such an action would be a BIG offence to the japanese soul. A nation who's history embed samurais, seppuku, kamikaze can't be terrified of threat of Baruto etc. no matter how BIG and skilled they are. The inpact of foreign rikishis should only inspire native wrestlers to fight harder to show THIS IS THEIR game. On the other hand foreign rikishis should respect the OZUMO rituals, rules etc. They should be glad to have a chance to have a chance to participiate in a 'sport' which is older than their native country, with tradition older than Muhammad. Those who do NOT follow and respect the rulez should be kicked all the way to Ushuaia. I wonder also if those japanese (and those who have same opinions) who do NOT like foreigns rikishis have same problems with baseboll beeing such a big sport in Japan?... Hmmm... have a nice sunny day :-) PS. The day rikishis like AMA is a problem for OZUMO I will start to look for some new hobby PS2.....the essence of the problem might be the behaviour of Asashoryu. Beeing among the most tallented sumo wrestlers all time its a pity to see some of his behaviour thats why I hope Yokozuna Hakuho will put back some dignity into OZUMO

For the odds of having no December babies in a 42-man makuuchi field, I get 2.4%. How's that for totally useless? Ok, I feel compelled to chime in a bit. Firstly I get a probability of 2.6%. But the useless part of all this talk is that December is meaningless - ANY month without a birthday would have gotten Kaiguma's attention. While I'm too lazy now to calculate the probability of that, my guess is that it's over 50% probability that at least a month has no birthday in a field of 42 people. me lazy too...but if december probality is 2.6% that should be the same for all other months so that would make 12x2.6=31.2% probality (not 50) that at least a month has no birthd...... anyway fun with useless info (Laughing...) cium cium eciq

Damn..sh** ...errghh...all my points in the post above ended up in kaigumas quote... you can read them as answers to both bealzbubs questions and kaigumas comments... I even messed upp who asked and so... must be my worst post yet..though my answers are what I do think good day all eciq

...very good questions alltogether...have a nice sunny day kaiguma... regards eciq

I think/hope that Osh will become a strong ozeki next year. You should be more optimistic and have higher hopes for your countryman (Laughing...) My prediction is Aki Y Asashoryu, Hakuho O Kotooshu, Chiyotaikai, Ama/Homasho (S Kotomitsuki, Homasho (Tokitenku if Homasho is O)) (K Baruto (if healed), Tochiozan) eciq

Jonah Lomu was a cool choice. With his fysique and speed if he could learn tachai well he could be a very difficult man to stop. I guess some would love to henka him (Laughing...) I too agree with Otokonoyama and Azamaryu that ALL the great judo champs would do well (I add Pawel Nastula) Vassili Alexeiev (Heart...)))) Yeaaa, he could lift out Konishiki thx to ALL for interesting comments

Hi, Do not know how to create a REAL poll, but your opinions are of more dignity rather than some numbers. Also that would be surely some posts why i did NOT have this or this athlete as an option to vote. However you have the question in the topic. My personal choice would be Alexander Karelin who I think if he choose to be a sumowrestler would make it all the way to yokozuna. He had the strength, balance, size and everything. What are your choices regards eciq

sure GREAT sumo (Applauding...) as for Kokkai I guess ppl wait until someone starts a topic about that. I too want to read all analysies, etc. I have no idea what made him so angry maybe he got hit by Tamanoshimas head at the end of the bout? I wait for some expert views (Applauding...) eciq
-
Yea... I guess he must have had done something in that direction. Incredible fightnig spirit as well. Someone posted last basho that Ama's 'stupid' fierce tachais etc last basho was kinda training session how to deal with big and difficullt oponennts. He might be so right about that. Go Ama go (Applauding...) I was also very impressed with Yokozunas bout. The 'new' Roho is so cool. Finally he does sumo that shoud be his trademark. Gone are the endlessly henkas and slapping downs. Too bad he could not get that win. That would make this basho so much more interesting.

Thank You Asojima. I guess I should maybe ask myself first before I post when a quetion arise in my head :-) I DO feel little stupid. I have been following sumo for some years so I should know better. To my defence I can only say it was some bashos ago we had more than two sekiwake or komosubi (Hatsu 05 I think) As for my predictions the numbers I gave was just an example so they maybe are highly unlikely but the outcome with all six KK is quite likely. Roho is almost there. Both komusubis having 4:4 after first week is VERY promising. Kotomitsuki is only 2 wins away from his trademark 8:7. I doubt Bart will go MK. This leaving only Miyabiyama have to do his duty. I believe he will (Dohyo-iri...) So I think we will have a bigger sanyaku next basho :-) regards eciq

I am NOT an 'guess the banzuke' expert. I wonder what would happen if for example the basho ends with following results ----> Sekiwake ---- Miyabiyama (9-6) Kotomitsuki (9-6) Komusubi ---- Kisenosato (9-6) Kokkai (9-6) Maegashira 1 --Baruto (11-4) Roho (10-5) it is all sekiwake, komusubi and M1 ends with good kachi-koshi. If Baruto's 11-4 is with jun-yusho is it possible he can get any promotion in situation above? It looks like a situation when all six end this basho with good KK is very likely regards eciq
-
could not agree more.... ....Ama's excellent start is very promissing for a bout against Baruto or Roho ar maybe both. Maybe than (if he manages to win them) he will climb on a kensho standing list. regards eciq

Good points to a good post. Beeing self a rookie here I too have noticed some stupid posts and way too long threads sometime arguing about non-sense things. Have been reading forum for 2-3 years and following sumo since mid- nineties. Though to my bad english I did not decide to join untill now :-) have a nice day eciq

In my post above I missed Peterao's name in his quote. Sorry Peterao

some statistics first **************** Yokozuna 11-4, 13-2, 1-2-12,14-1 Ozeki 13-2, 13-2, 14-1 ,13-2 Asa vs Hakuho 06 Hatsu 12 Lost Kotenage 06 Haru 11 Lost Uwatedashinage 06 Haru 16 Won Shitatenage **************** Many of You have some good reasons why not to promote Hakuho. I myself think it is not so big thing that he did mot get promoted. I believe that Hakuho is a great soon-to-be-yokozuna and a basho (or few) delay really does not matter. Still I think that they really should promote him. I think he is the best rikishi so far this year. Hakuho is not only performing yokozuna style sumo. He is performing a real GOOD YOKOZUNA style sumo. I know many of you will say sumo is not only about statistics. It is about style, grace etc. But than think again it is a LOT about numbers as well. You do NOT get promoted if you get a 6-9 record no matter how gracefull sumo you performed and losses were all henka :-) Back to numbers. Hakuho has lost so far 7 bouts in four bashos. Who can match it? Asashoryu ? He has lost 7 bouts in 3 bashos so far (excluded the basho he got injured) Two of Asashoryu's losses was against Hakuho in two consecutive bashos. When did it last happen? I do not say he is better than Asashoryu but in sumo you can have 2,3 even 4 yokozunas and only one can be the best. So it IS possible to be second best and worse and still be a good yokozuna. You all agree that Hakuho is #2 in sumo now. Think about it. He is #2 in sumo when at #1 spot we have one of the greatest yokozunas all time, maybe the best one ever. still our young boy have a better record this year, beating Asashoryu's ass twice in a row and having jun-yusho, play-off, yusho, jun-yusho streak this year. As I said before I don't cry over the fact that Hakuho was not promoted although I think he deserved it. It may have been a 'wise' decission but I don't think it was fair. I worry more about having 5 ozekis noone performing ozeki class sumo stopping Miyabiyama from becoming one. Not that he is performing any sky rocket sumo but at least he does it two digit :-) Have a nice weekend my sumofriends. sincerely eciq ps. answer to the first quote. Is a tsunatori/ozekitori basho better for sumo (in all means) than having after years a basho with two yokozunas fighting for emperors cup, even if the new youkozuna is NOT japanese? answer to the second quote. I agree with you in 120%

I could not agree more with you. The Wajima match is awesome. Have never seen it before. But I mean this is SUMO ...whaa..OOOOZumo... Terao's match was great too. Terao was my big-time-fave during that time...and of course ...the babyface...i miss him...a LOT. have a nice sunny day sincerely eciq

"Since this is a (pointless) trivia thread, i'll ask a question here" too. How long was the longest bout ever in any divisions? sincerelry eciq

This is a GOOD link. It's an french. Just browse to Mainoumi video and enjoy :-) http://www.info-sumo.net/info/modules.php?...wdownload&cid=3 interesting guess :-)They said two months of rehab, but than who knows (Hugging...) have a nice sunny day

mentioning Kyokushuzan was a very nice thing to do. Really soon to be a Yokozuna style. His father must be so proud of him for what he achieves and how he does it. Whole Mongolia should be proud of this great athlete. sincerely eciq ps. Kaiho 7-8 :-( Satoyama 7-8 :-( tooooo bad

I am happy too that Hakuho won. I think he already is good competition to Asa. He has lost ONLY five bouts in three bashos. That's good even for a Yokozuna. It is even better than what they wanted Tochiazuma to do to get his promotion. I really like Hakuho's sumo and him. He is my nr 2 favourite rikishi (Ama nr1) but I did not like they way he won against Baruto. I am not a henka expert but I think he deserved a better tachai. I am glad for Miyabiyama too. He wrestled with attitude this basho. You could see it in his eyes. He can be a good ozeki, but that's it. As for Baruto I think he will make kk next basho and a basho after he will be komosubi. That might be his wall, but he himself is a wall. I don't think he will get too many oportunities to win kinboshis. I am technique person myself but I love it mixed with strength. Big guys make technicians even better. Remember Mainoumis fights with the giants? His win over Akebono? There we had a guy withj technique and guts (Hugging...) Next basho I think there's a chance/possibility that Asa will be absent. I think he should for many reasons. First, he should NOT compete if not completely healed. He has this obligation to his rank. Secondly that would make Hakuho's yokozuna run easier. I believe he really needs another yokozuna to make his records look better (just one reason). Anyway, with or without Asa Hakuho will be the major favourite next basho. His yokozuna run is little more promissing than the last one. Finally we had an interesting basho even if we've been 'robbed' youkozunas presense and a yokozuna run. I believe though, well I'm almost sure that next basho will be asskicking so I hope Homasho is 100% fit when it starts :-) sincerely eciq
-
I agree with You that it was an interesting basho, thats why I mean this basho is worth to remember. Baruto's debut is fabulous. 'Rise of Hakuho'? I think he is flying high since january. I maybe should not use word bad, but than my english is very ...what should I say. I often find it hard to find right words to espress myself. The thing is we had some seven bashos with your favo chasing historical records, than we have a hope for a new native Yokozuna and now we lost them both. That kinda made this basho who is the best to take the chance when they are gone. Kinda a free yusho. I myself believe Hakuho would take it anyway but it would be nicier if the top two rikishis plus Kootusho were present. sincerely eciq

Hi, We have ONE Yokozuna.....we lost him. We have A Yokozuna wanabee...we lost him..too. What would that be? A Maegashira race? Almost. We have seen (still do) a Phoenix rise this yousho (there is a topic about it). We have seen an Yokozuna style ozeki loosing at MOST six matches in three bashos. We have seen the baltic tsunami who had a chance to win three consecutive yushos in three consecutive bashos. Now that will not happen. What happens is that we have this mountain of muscles ranked at M11 set up on day 14 and 15 against our yusho runners. A wise decision as I see it, but without Asa and Zuma, Mr Yoghurt beeing light, kadoban masters satisfied who should they put up against them? I think it is a weak basho if we have a rookie (even if a future Yokozuna) to decide who will rise the emperors cup. I think it is a weak basho when one of the biggest highlights is Baradzov Batraz Feliksovich (aka Hakurozan) forthcommings. I think it is BAD basho when I score bad at GISP (Being unsure...) but it is still a basho to remember. I see this poor basho as a start of new era. An era of GREAT Yokuzanas beeing born. I do NOT doubt that both Hakuho and Baruto will raise emperors cup at least ten times in the future, maybe twenty or more. The outcome of tomorrows bout really does not matter more than how quick Hakuho will become the Yokozuna (to beat). As for Baruto, this bout does not mean almost anything thinking about banzuke. Of course the bout itself means a lot for him if he can handle the Yokozuna, sorry I mean ozeki. But in the long run this bout means nothing cause Baruto WILL make Yokozuna sooner or later beating both Yokuzanas before he will be one too. So was it a bad basho? Yes. Was it a basho to remember? No doubt. A good bout? Yes, Kitazakuras win over Baruto kicks ass :'-( sincerely eciq ps. and yes I DO believe that Miyabiyama will be ozeki. The question is who will be sekiwake if Kotomitsuki loose tomorrow

I got error message while trying to look at my gisp results at gunga.com. Is there any mirror site where I can check them? thanks in advance eciq

Hi, I'm not sure this is the right place to post it, but I'm sure all sumo fans will love these links. I use to (I guess most of You too) to sumosurf a lot during bashos. Today I came across a webpage with great really HIGH quality sumo pics. Including Asashoryu down to guys like Takanoyama. Pics of the skinny fellow from pilznerland are just too good. Real piece of art. Enjoy (Yucky...) sincerely eciq Takanoyamas fighting face http://quinlanfaris.com/gallery/main.php?g...m&g2_itemId=296 Main galery http://quinlanfaris.com/gallery/main.php?g...em&g2_itemId=72

******************************************************************************** ******* (Doitsuyama said) You missed a rather decisive distinction between Hakuho and Tochiazuma which also is kind of ruling Hakuho out for yokozuna promotion. One of the conditions for yokozuna promotion is that the results are achieved at the rank of ozeki, i. e. you have to achieve the ozeki promotion first,........ ******************************************************************************** ******* Thank you, Of course, I forgot about it (rookie style). The question just crossed my mind while I was browsing scgroups today. Rulez are rulez. But since the situation could have happened, it is Hakuho 15-0 and Tochiazuma 12-3 during this basho and Tochiazuma would get his promotion was it wise that council gave him this chance? I mean I guess Tochiazuma would be glad of becomming a Yokozuna, but should they not make it a little tougher for him because of the REAL fear that during Tochiazumas run for a Yokuzuna there is a guy who is 'little' better. Has such a thing ever happened before. At the same time it is making Yokuzuna rang a little waeker. Who wants that? sincerely eciq ps. Doitsuyama maybe I place your quote in wrong place. If it is the case I am sorry. Me NOT worth a yonidan rang at this forum (I was stupid...)
