Promotion/Demotion and Yusho Discussion Nagoya 2025
Oskanohana replied to Asashosakari's topic in Honbasho Talk
I will throw veteran Kotodaigo's name out there in sandanme. Maybe it's more wishing for it than the crude reality due to his continuous injury woes, but he's a mid-makushita level rikishi with enough experience (he almost made it to juryo) and craftiness to beat anybody in the field. -
I don't know who you're talking about coz I don't know my kanjis, but you made me remember Azumaryu, another recent loss for the juryo janitors
-
It's external, so technically that'd be a pain out the ass, no?... We already lost Daishoho, and we're about to lose Mitoryu from the Juryo janitor pool. Somebody has to carry on the work that Kyokushuho started. We need some big fellas in juryo, preferably mongolians and underachievers, to separate the wheat from the chaff. Maybe Seihakuho can fill in, now that his godfather was shown the door. Regarding Takerufuji, maybe injuries are his Achilles' heel. You know, because his actual Achilles' heel isn't his figurative Achilles' heel, because he won a yusho without one. Oh, that was baaad.
-
How bad you have to henka to get caught by Kagayaki, who is as clueless as they come. Hitoshi really baffles me. He can do proper sumo, but he started doing dodgy stuff maybe because of the injury on his juryo debut. He sort of steadied himself out but now he's back to sucking with a vengeance. I don't know what Hitoshi is gonna show any given day. As for the insult on Tamashoho, I'll let it slide because it's nonsense, he's a pillar of the community and a stalwart of proper sumo, just as his master Chiyoshoma. So you're telling me you like him because how he opens his legs. I'm absolutely appalled by this sexist talk, reminiscing of old times when one sex was subdued to the other. Japanese sumo is the absolute pinnacle of equality, no matter your sex (as long as you're the correct one), religion (well, this is kind of a part of a religion, you know, so no OTHER religions) or nationality (but only one of those pesky outsiders per stable, please).
-
I saw that Nobehara had to stop mid-bout in his match vs Yoshii and couldn't stand on his left leg at all. He had to be helped out, so I guess we'll see him tomorrow on the kyujo list. That or he asks Takerufuji for his magic tape.
-
I saw Shimanoumi not managing to win despite multiple chances to do so. Maybe I'm just a pessimist. I was about to call it quits for him, but today he showed he can hang out for another basho...and maybe 20 more...Mercy. I've said it before and I'l keep saying it. There are no mongolians who made it to ozeki that didn't make it further to yokozuna. There have been 6 already. Ama did it when you'd get laughed at if you thought he would win a single yusho. Kakuryu did it. Hoshoryu did it (and at times like today or yesterday one wonders how). Kirishima is wily enough and if he's recovered from his unexplicable lack of staying power, who's there to deny him? Onosato is one. From the rest....Aonishiki maybe? Not enough. Kiribayama next yokozuna. Book it. Takerufuji thought that the best way to send a monkey flying was grabbing stubbornly his mawashi. And from the outside. Genius plan. You should try some introspection and think how did he, of all people, get there in the first place. What was that quote? Sounds about right.

Abi on day 2: "I woke up and felt like walking aimlessly forward and rolling over". That was mukiryoku sumo at its finest. And by mukiryoku, I actually mean the forbidden "Y" word.
-
I rode on both of them. One more useless than the other, true, but it's my second Kitanowaka pick in a row, and I'm not violating any rules, hence I demand satisfaction. https://imgflip.com/gif/29dqmt (Stupid crap that doesn't allow me to post gifs or jpgs and gives me the stupid forbidden IP address error)
-
Wow, more than 7 years running and you kill it with one simple comment. I'd like to ask you, what's your opinion on Tohakuryu? Does he seem pretty stable to you in juryo?
-
From the thread :Banzuke Surfing Natsu 2025 (19th Wave) Look carefully at the only Kitanowaka pick, admitted by none other than yourself. Never mind the astonishing feat of picking not one but two makekoshi rikishi. I expect an apology, or a promotion, or a new surfboard named Asanoyama.
-
....not that he needs an excuse to do one. So I expect a "reasonable reason" for every Abi henka from now on, thank you.

Sorry for the late response, but I was referring to Kasuganishiki being famously one of the head honchos of the 2011 yaocho scandal. If my memory serves me right, he had some kind of shop who made kesho-mawashi and things like that and they used it for payments or whatever, but maybe I'm talking out my ass in this last part. The first part is just the truth.
-
Kasuganishiki and his crew liked it that way.

Promotion/Demotion and Yūshō Discussion Natsu 2025

Sir, please stop bermisching the Kak's good name. Proof Look at all those maegashira yorikiris. He'd even tussle on the belt with prime Baruto of all people, hooking his legs when Baruto went for the crane, which made for some awesome struggles. There's allergy to cloth, Tohakuryu is on a whole other level, Kimurayama comes to mind. The best thing about Tohakuryu is how awful he looks in practically every single loss he suffers, when his plans don't work. Those are the little pleasures in life.... -

Let's agree to degree. Restecp. Please keep Shimanoumi out of the demotion queue. Not gonna happen. Although, Harry Kane won a title and Tottenham an international one. The signs are there, no, please, no... As far as lower sanyaku (or as I like to call it in the current circumstances, M18 watch), everybody is KK on day 11 except Takayasu, who's having a stinker and will be expelled. With no reasonable prospects of an ozeki promotion for either sekiwake (riiiiight?), Wakatakakage needs a 3-1 record to force a 3rd sekiwake spot (thus eliminating the M18e slot and demoting Tochitaikai for sure). Abi is in pole position to take Takayasu's place and Wakamotoharu (5-6 as M1e) is second on line right now but could force a 3rd komusubi spot (again eliminating M18e) with a simple kachikoshi if his bro fails his quest and Abi gets a Sydney Sweeney result (DD). -

Great summary but there's a mistake in there that I have taken the liberty to correct. I thoroughly recall not distinguishing between Kitanowaka and Ito/Mineyaiba in their makushita days circa 2020-2021, both being these tallish and somewhat lanky fellas that are pro-mawashi and decent on it but are still missing some spark to get it to the next level. Tochitaikai is much more of a chaotic entity that is more pushy-pully inclined and it's how he's found his footing as a sekitori (to my utter disbelief...and don't get me started on Kayo). As far as Mineyaiba's bouts, I've watched them, he's been solid enough and basically unchallenged at jonidan level (at least that's what I recall). He's probably not 100% but he should be healthy enough to yusho and propel some believer to the top of this year's wave. -
