  2. Newbie's question: Why does Baruto's name need to be changed to kanji? (Nodding yes...)
  3. Estonian Academy of Arts, http://www.artun.ee/?lang=en, held a competition to find out the best design for the new Baruto's kesho-mawashi. Design was required to include blue-black-white colors of Estonian national flag, leopards from the national cote of arms, word "Estonia" in japanese and estonian and word "Baruto" in japanese The winning designer(s) were awarded 10'000 Estonian crones EEK, that is around 660 EUR. PS Obviously it is not Baruto pictured here, but then who is the impostor (Nodding yes...)
  4. Congratulations from frosty homeland (Applauding...) (Applauding...) Offtopic. By the way it is around -25 degrees centigrade at the moment here. If the competition was held here then sumotoris would need all their abundant fat and on dohyo they would breath white smoke like dragons.

  8. For those who dit not see it clearly... Please feel free to zoom in. For my money Kakizoe's left hand was guilty of offence.

  10. For a short overview please have a look at the online encyclopedia about Estonia: http://www.estonica.org/index.html. My understanding is that term "vikings" can be used to describe ancient estonians in generalised sense. During 11th and 12th century islanders (especially from island Saaremaa) seemed to have lots of similarities with "real" Scandianavian vikings. Coming from a small peaceful peasant nation I personally understand Baruto's problem finding suitable warrior image. List of my possible hero candidates: - Kalevipoeg, giant saga hero http://www.ibs.ee/ibs/culture/estonian_lit...onal_epic2.html - Georg Lurich, championship wrestler http://www.sandowmuseum.com/page63.html - Georg Hackenschmidt, championship wrestler http://www.sandowmuseum.com/page28.html
  11. Usually when it comes to forums I am more of a lurker than active participator, but following instruction given by Sasanishiki I cannot avoid making this post. My sumo interest has two main reasons: Eurosport sumo broadcasts and the starting career of Baruto. Hopefully I can be of use to other forum members in questions involving Estonia and also in translating materials from estonian/russian into english. Looking forward to good sumo and interesting posts.
