Google tells me it's from Kettering in Northamptonshire, which really is central, and it was extensively researched before selection.
The UK's drift deposits are very well documented, though.
Kettering is known for its loam that has a high clay content, appreciated by landscapers and ceramists.

They should train with common family names from Madagascar, like Randriasamimanana or Razafimahatratra … Should make Japanese pronounciation a piece of cake ;)

Are these full-on kilts? What are they called in Japan? And what's the little-bit-too-high knotted sporran for?
This attire is called "Montsuki Haori Hakama", one of the most formal attire for men at present.

A bit off topic but I wonder if most heya buildings use some kind of traditional or customary basic template for the building design -- 1st floor dohyo, 2nd floor common living area, 3rd floor oyakata etc., ending up with fairly cramped and ascetic living conditions for most of the rikishi. Seems like most heya are built that way, except Nishonoseki's experiment in the countryside and perhaps Nakamura who added a gym. I understand using several floors is necessary in a city environment where land is at a premium, but when already building a new multi story building wouldn't it be fairly easy to add another floor for example, creating more space for the heya? Sure it'd cost more but constructing a new building is already expensive anyway and having more space would surely be valuable for a heya?

Terunofuji YUsho !!!!

That was a serious challenge for the yokozuna but Terunofuji handled Daieisho's full charges well and seems to be heading towards his 10th yusho. Still a few tough bouts ahead, especially Kotozakura who is probably thinking that he could have a real yusho chance if not for the pesky yokozuna suddenly turning up healthy.
Had a talk with a nurse/physical therapist this morning, he saidTerunofuji is looking healthy this basho, good muscles distribution in his upper body and legs, not much fat at belly level, a good sign for someone that big and suffering from diabetes.

I accept the fact that at least in English the same word is used for both, but is this the case for other languages?
In French too, "rêve", but often with a connotation of unrealisable wishes.

Yes, it looks like we've seen Terunofuji's last days …

(Non-sarcastic) Question to the Kise fans of old: Did you ever feel safe?
Never. I remember seeing him in May 2016 with some Japanese friends, all of us despairing of seeing him promoted one day !

Seriously, how would the NSK react to a former rikishi publicly performing a Yokozuna dohyoiri, Kanreki or not ?

"I had injured my right big toe in training in December and contemplated kyujo, but it was important for me to enter Hatsu. It's my 'kicking foot' and I felt quite uncomfortable during the tachiai. The pain was strong and I couldn't even do sumo in training. I started taking painkillers a day before the start of the basho, and found myself taking three different kinds of pills because of the pain. I taped three of my toes together. I couldn't get that first step in. Right after my sixth loss (and losing the chance to return to Ozeki) it felt better. I managed to go 6-6 but then re-injured the toe and lost all remaining bouts.. I'm good now. I think I will fall out of sanyaku but will gambarize and am aiming for double-digit wins!" he declared. This was Shoudai, of course.
That would party explain why he was looking so lethargic at times …

Depends, the upper boxes of the Tokyo bashos have zabuton so thin I think you'd have to fold it into the shape of an airplane to get it to the dohyo.
They are also the only thing separating your ass from a carpet that hasn't been cleaned since the meiji restoration so you would definitely think twice before throwing.
Idea for sumo goods: zabuton the size of a tea coaster, sold especially to be thrown (a bit like the miniature clay roof tiles sold at Yashima mountain neat Takamatsu, to be thrown from one of the viewing points, according to the tradition of Kawara Nage(瓦投げ) …

It’s a thing from the same family that scared Quasimodo’s mother and influenced the dear boy’s physique.

Illuminate each stable with such a lamp and milk will disappear from the surface of the globe.
In a word as in a hundred, I find this object slightly disgraceful."(adapted from French Comic "Achille Talon)

I think when Takakeishou is promoted to Yokozuna, instead of holding up a sea bream, they should hold up a tsuna fish sandwich.
In France, we call zis kind of 'orrible pun a "jeu de mollet pour cerf-volant"

This video encapsulates the modern world. Cringe-worthy ignorance of the topic he's covering (or feigned ignorance), and played to other ignorant people as if they're in on the joke, too.
Yes, definitely unfunny !

Is chocolate a popular item in short supply in Japan which would be a good thing to bring in with us?
Is there anything else that might be a good gift item to bring? You can find decent chocolate in Japan, but not the Swiss special freshly made Easter or Christmas editions. I've been bringing some to my friends for the last 30 years and I suspect young rikishi might appreciate them too ...

I think this should be fixed by the end of December at the latest, even if that sounds pretty early,.
Definitely. That will leave me time to gather enough chocolate for the young rikishi and the organizers ...

Well during the basho obviously people will be busy but if it's a few days beforehand what I'll do is ask one of the oyakata to let ye take out a few of the young guys, buy them dinner, maybe go bowling or whatever. The sekitori get out enough and have money but for the young guys it'll be fun and a break from the norm.
Feed them Swiss chocolate ?
