That would be utterly classless, imo. Not worth of a Yokozuna.
-
I can understand yesterday's non-call for a mono-ii. But today - Yoshinofuji vs Ichiyamamoto...boys. Since the shimpan obviously held a collective nap, here one of the rikishi at ring side should have raised his hand.
-
I fondly remember Kyokushuzan´s repertoire of jumps.
-
Oonosato´s strength, combined with his calm demeanor...just otherwordly. The only thing that worries me is if he would start neglecting technique (his footwork) because of his power, like Terunofuji supposed did. Hopefully he does not get seriously injured by overly relying on his physique.
-
And I´ve been watching for very much longer. Must be my blind spot.
-
Takayasu´s harite definitely riled the Yokozuna.
-
To be fair, they are both very young. At first I thought Daigozakura was playing with his food, but as the bout went on...
-
Kekaeshi ? Seriously ? Watching one is a first for me.
-
Ooooh, he is just carefully managing his rank to get himself into the position of a M17 yusho in January. We haven´t had one lately.
-
Asanoyama gets better as the basho progresses. I am curious how far he can make it Makuuchi.
-
While acknowledging that wrestling while constantly being hung over hampered his performance and despite his meager record, an upbeat Mitakeumi looks forward to a sanyaku return, since his visionary oyakata´s advice to "just take on the guy in the middle" is starting to pay dividends.
-
Aonishiki paid apprentice fee today. And dearly.
-
Oshoma...that well-timed slap caught Shodai completely by surprise and besides ringing his chimes put him away for good.
-
Hoshoryu goes 5-0 and, expecting the celebration, is surprised when he is told he has not yet won the "Fukuoka-koen" .
-
Now take them to a football match between Tottenham and Arsenal !
-
Here we call that style a 3-5 cut (Drei-Fünfer-Schnitt): three fingers broad shaved on the sides, five fingers from the neck . Not that popular, but very practical.
-
Onosato´s counter was a show of brute force, not many could have pulled that off. I think this is also what sets the two Yokozuna currently apart.
-
Now that was impressive from Hoshoryu. Onosato caught completely off-guard.
-
That looked like Takayasu waited for the gyoji to get out of the way before he applied the finishing touch.
-
I am careful comparing recent people with those from other eras. The 90s are long gone, and everything has evolved a lot. In my opinion there is no way to assess how a rikishi would have done back then, and vice versa. The only thing I know for sure is that competition always gets better over time, in all sports.

One of those cute plastic ones with thin sheet metal strips glued on as blades ?
-
Having been sat on his butt - I can imagine Hoshoryu felt a little embarassed.

Little of a mixture here as well. Always used my left foot for football. Though (extreme) right-hander, I learned to use my left hand for bow-shooting, because for whatever reason, my left eye is dominant. Oddly in other sports like table tennis or baseball that was an advantage. But when it came to calmly aim at something - no chance using my right as leading hand. But apologies if I veered off-topic here.
-
Right-hander here. I am from a country where left-handers of my generation (X), particular in backward country regions were still forced to learn to write with their right hand ("use the nice hand"), hold cutlery like a right-hander, etc. Thankfully that had died out by the mid-eighties. Did some of you have had such experience ?

Hakuoho couldn´t do an effective ottsuke defense with his right arm, securing Aonishiki a strong inside grip.
