Exactly what I was thinking, too. Completely normal to have this happen after such an emotional and tough battle. If this match had happened before the Hakuho match, it would have been no problem for Tochinoshin. Hopefully he can come back tomorrow (although a 3 way playoff would be a lot of fun).

Anyone know where I can find his other matches from this basho?

I, like most of you, watched Kotoshogiku's body language after his final bout. I just had an overwhelming feeling that he is leaning towards retirement. He seemed awfully reflective and inwardly emotional, but maybe that's just me over analyzing things

Let's play hypothetical situations here... Teru gets a 14-1Y and then continues on his streak and pulls out a 13-2Y in May. The NSK would have no choice but to promote him, right? Has there ever been a time with 5 Yokozunas? Would the NSK more or less force Kak or Haru out?

Really curious to see where Kise's head is over the next 4 days. To me, he looked visibly nervous today, and his matches have gotten off to shakier and shakier starts before it's almost like he says to himself, "Ok Kise, you're a Yokozuna now. Let's go." I have a feeling this basho will come down to a playoff...

Can anyone explain to me why whenever someone gets seriously hurt everyone just stands around poking them and hoping they magically come to life? Last basho when people got knocked out they just stood there. I know there is the sumo spirit of being able to get up and bow, but surely in a professional sport there would be people smart enough to recognize serious injuries and help instead of just standing around?

Hey everyone! I've been a lurker on this forum for a few months now, and decided I might as well get a username. I'm from the US, but have lived in Japan (Akita) for 2 years as an Assistant Language Teacher (heading home in 2 weeks :-(). I've competed the past 2 years in the annual Akita International Sumo Tournament, where I was able to bring home 2 yushos and develop a deep love for sumo. I'm pretty sure I drive my wife crazy with all the sumo videos I watch. I'm still definitely at the beginning stages of learning, especially when it comes to names, but I look forward to learning from you all! Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!
