Very enjoyable basho! Just wondering if anyone else has noticed that this basho has had a significant increase in blood letting from scratches(?) Are there regulations on fingernail lengths?
-
Looks like Endo's new coach is Mr Miyagi. Great crane impression there :)

Had to watch that more than once or twice. Brilliant ring sense. Thanks Gurowake!

Natsu 2014 discussion thread **probable spoilers**
Ajisen replied to kuroimori's topic in Honbasho Talk
Conspiracy theories 1 Kisenosato yusho cos Hiro predicts Harumafuji will "knock him off" 2 Hakuho threw the match to Goeido as renewed Japanese interest in Ikioi and Endo is a fire he will be fanning as instructed. 3 Feel free to add .... Love this basho! Great bouts from so many.... Any one else feel that Harumafuji's patting of the opposing Rikshi after the last few matches are kinda " you know that you would be in the first 5 rows if I wasn't warned right?" Edited to add If this is too much of a spoiler please feel free to delete the post. Just enjoying this basho so much -

Haru 2014 discussion thread **probable spoilers**

I thought the Mono-ii was not only who touched down first but also who was in a losing position when the touch happened. Hakuho was falling outside from Harumafuji's move and his hand landing was blocked from some of the judges view. Still a extra bout keeps the crowds happy and the YDC off Harumafuji's back so I guess silver lining all round. Congratulations Kakuryu! Exciting basho. -

Gosh the last 10 minutes was worth the price of admission! -
Did any one else observe the wonderful poise of the ring sweeper at the end of the Hakuho Kakuryu bout? As at least a ton of rikishi was barreling toward his corner, the ring sweeper calmly removes the water bucket, allows the Yokozuna and Ozeki fly past his shoulder, replaces the bucket and continues sweeping as the crowd goes wild.
-
Lovely photos Fay. Thanks. Would you happen to know what the cloth bags(?) the rikishi a carrying called? They look fabulous.
-
Just wondering if there are any lip reading Bulgarian sumo fans out there who could let me know what Kotooshu said after his bout with Kisenosato?
-
Looks like a modification of shikona to " En-dough" would be appropriate. Thanks for doing this through all the hiccups this basho, it is very interesting to see where the sponsors are placing their bets.
-
Thanks Asojima! "floated bitter smile, head went blank" is fabulous. Will have "half a haiku" T-shirt made!
-
If Kisenosato has indeed lost his shot at becoming Yokozuna, I hope the pressure of carrying the mental burden heaped on him by the YDC eases off and allows him to be the good Ozeki he has the potential to be. And that they learn how to handle Endo's inevitable rise without placing the same kind of pressure on him. Endo has wonderful stability and seems so much more calm than Goeido at the same stage of his journey. Have mixed feelings for any bout between Endo and Hakuho mainly because of Harumafuji's lift and dump of Goeido, he never was the same after that. Endo has too much potential to be broken too soon. I know I sound like a softy for that statement and sumo is a harsh world but Endo appears to be a legitimate major player of the future.

Special guest today was Daemon but the very special guest to me was former Miyabiyama. Good to see him back on screen. Daemaon then did the past present and future stars of sumo. Nice run down on 2013 with clips of Miyabiyama and Robo and Baruto. Then came the Kise-promo clips "worthy opponent " of the Yokozuna. Very telling they (Japanese commentators) consider the worthy opponent is Hakuho not Harumafuji. NB Ross is a KISS fan. Who knew??

May 2014 be a year of good health and peace for all.

Yokozuna is plural and singular. Rikishi, Oyakata, shinpan, yobidashi, etc.. etc.. -all plural and singular. Yokozunae is not a word-it's made up. Yokozunas will work, but so does Yokozuna. Thanks for clearing that up kitamayama. Guess I was getting so paranoid about YDC's rumblings and grumblings, I assumed it was another dig at my favourite Rikishi.
-
Guess the reporter assumed everyone knew "the" Yokozuna referred to here. Or does he have any inside knowledge or a crystal ball? Exciting basho for the Japanese fans, nice to have a couple of contenders for the Sanyaku and gasp! Maybe the "top dog"/"king of the ring" position!! Hiro must be happy. Imagine what his linguistic gymnastics skills will have to stretch to when that happens.
