Quick note - I may not be able to update this from about day 4 to around day 11 or so. But everyone else does such a good job updating, I don't think it's going to be any problem at all. :-)

Do we know what his problem is? Withdrew in Aki with a "left leg muscle contusion", and hasn't been seen since.

And we're off to an early start - ASASEKIRYU is kyujo for Shonichi due to the left ankle injury he suffered last basho. Tokushoryu gets an easy start to the basho with a fusensho.

Good grief. And of course they couldn't have decided this 2 days ago.

Apparently it's a different injury of his left foot that he suffered in practice three days ago. (Some unspecified type of cartilage damage.) Later entry to the basho probable.

Edit: Reviewing the previous thread - it was his right ankle last basho. ;-)

:-S No wonder I never passed my driving test if I can't tell left from right. Thanks for the correction, I saw left foot and 'articulation' and jumped to my conclusion.

The mysterious Kokonoe kyujo kur curse seems to continue as

ms10e Chiyoarashi was limping after awkwardly twisting his knee in his win today.

(another) kyujo looks more than likely... :-(

Could you explain to me why Kokonoe-beya deshi's kyujo are strange? Is it more interesting for these young guys to compete injured?

It just struck me when I saw Chiyoarashi's knee buckle that a lot of promising Kokonoe rikishi suffered injuries.

Didn't say anything about fighting injured - and as of now, he hasn't even withdrawn.

Just intended to point out the bad luck aspect.

Unfortunately, the video's bout don't allow to be optimistic. Chiyoarashi already suffered a bad knee injury last year. I think he will be kyujo for the end of basho.

Fingers crossed he doesn't follow Chiyozakura.

West Jonidan 46 HOKUTOO (absent Kyushu)

Forgot to mention that Hokutoo had surgery on a left wrist injury before the Kyushu basho, and he's still in the recovery phase now.

Just realized Hokutoo (北勝旺) (ほくとおう) is absent and Hokuto (北斗) (ほくと) didn't appear on day 1. Good think there isn't a Houkuto or Houkutoo out there or things could really get confusing!

Unfortunately West Makushita 57 Ominato will be absent from tomorrow on.

He said he may come back for this basho but the win tomorrow goes to Sasanoyama.
