Video Stream - Hatsu 13 - Day 15 Up

The NSK should once again provide a live internet video stream of the action in ALL divisions every day of the Hatsu basho. The link(s) should go active at about 8:20 AM Japan Standard time with the Jonokuchi division (10:00 AM on days 13-15) and continue through the end of the Makuuchi Division at about 6:00 PM.

To watch the action, you need a high capacity (non-dialup) internet link and Microsoft Media Player or an equivalent ( many use VLC or RealPlayer ).

The links have again changed for this basho. There is only one video stream, but it may again be available on two reflectors. Link 1 is the generic unchanging URL. It is the same for every basho.
Links 2, 3 and 4 and the 2 mms links have changed for this basho. They take you to a specific reflector. Link 4 is a combination of links 2 and 3.
For the Kyushu basho, only one of the two scheduled reflectors was activated. This may also happen in Hatsu.

If you try to open any of the links before the NSK activates them for the day, you will get a connect error message. Keep trying.

The links are useable on iPhone4 using Good Player and on Samsung Galaxy S II using Vplayer. Other similar devices may also handle the links. Reports on other devices or players would be appreciated.

The approximate start times for each division through day 12 should be:
Jk - 08:30 - 08:45 AM JST
Jd - 09:00 AM
Sd - 11:10 AM
Ms - 1:20 PM
Juryo - 3:05 PM
Mk - 4:20 PM
Dohyo-iri: Juryo 2:40 PM, Mk 3:50 PM
All times are +/- 15 minutes
Days 2-4 may have maezumo matches for about 10 minutes before Jk.
Days 13-15 have fewer matches per day. Jk should start at about 10:30 AM on days 13/14 and at 10:00 AM on Day 15.

Day 0 - Link up by at least 11:30 AM JST with ticket promos. Only one of the reflectors being used again.
- Links 1, 2 and 4 and mms1 have been verified. Link3 and mms2 are not responding.
- Switched to live shot of dohyo at approx 01:00 PM JST. No sound yet.

- Bit Rate: 548Kbps. Audio with a steady tone started at about 2:45 PM.

- Audio included some testing of the shimpan's microphone. Link remained active through at least 5:00 PM.

From the stream, it looks like a lot of rears in the seats for the jd bouts. Did they lift the restriction on sitting down close for early bouts?

I'm upset. I don't understand why I can't access the streaming when I try in so many different ways, while my brother's laptop (which is inferior, by the way...) has no trouble at all. Is this a codec matter?

As long as it's a Windows-based computer, I can't imagine codec problems are the reason, unless you're running Windows Media Player 8 or something similarly out of date. Maybe it's a firewall issue?

As if to antagonize me, it's working perfectly today even if I did nothing differently. Thanks though - it's probably about an oscillating internet speed. I'm glad I can enjoy some fine live sumo.
