Jonosuke Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 (edited) Here's more news about Attila Toth now renamed Masutouou. There is also Moti's early November post Attila Toth, 18, arrived in Japan on November 4, a day before the Kyushu Basho opened and promptly joined the newest and 55th heya, Chiganoura Beya. Toth then went to their camp in Kyushu and started training with the heya's four other rikishis at their training camp. So far he is in the process of learning sumo techniques initially by doing basic sumo exercises like shiko, suri-ashi and matawari but he already has a good size to build on with height of 187 cm and weight of 135 kg. Toth was introduced through a Shisho's senior sumo club member, during his Takushoku University days, who happens to live in Germany at the moment. Toth's father is a wrestling coach and his mother is a former skier. His younger sister who is going to high school is doing fencing. Toth started taking wrestling lessons from his father since he was young and practicing sumo since he turned 13 years old. He has faced both Sandanme Kazafuzan (Nishikido Beya from Kazakhstan) and Sandanme Takanoyama (Naruto Beya from Czech Republic) at European Sumo Championships. Toth also place second at the World Junior Sumo Championship held in Osaka. At the moment he is not only doing physical training but also trying to learn Japanese customs and language as a foreign born rikishi. Heya's manager and just retired Kiyomori Kubota says, "He is always taking his own initiative to establish a communication with us. Between the time he joined the heya and when he arrived in Kyushu four days later, he mastered all 50 hiraganas". Kubota is surprised by how quickly he is catching on but it may take a bit of time for him to get used to the food. Attila can handle chopsticks well but he is not yet comfortable with chankonabe and his eating is still mainly centered on bread and burgers. While in Kyushu, he was receiving a "special" treatment as his own mawashi was not yet ready so he has been using the oyakata's "white" mawashi. He is scheduled to make a dohyo debut at the Hatsu Basho's Mae-zumo. "After his dohyo debut, we will start training him pretty hard," Chiganoura oyakata said. "I want to work really hard so I can compete against Kotooshu as quickly as possible," Toth said. (The above is taken from this month's Ozumo magazine but more personal note should come from Lilla soon as she promised me. (Hugging...) Edited December 16, 2004 by Jonosuke
Ryukaze Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 (edited) Wow I wish I could have been that big at age 18! (Punk rocker...) (oh well maybe in the next life....) For now Kickboxing is my only "non-spectator" sport (Hugging...) ..... Edited December 16, 2004 by Ryukaze
Asashosakari Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 Heya's manager and just retired Kiyomori Kubota<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not to thread-hijack, but FWIW, this is 23-year old former Tochio...pretty unusual to become a heya manager at such a young age, no...
Doitsuyama Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 Heya's manager and just retired Kiyomori Kubota<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not to thread-hijack, but FWIW, this is 23-year old former Tochio...pretty unusual to become a heya manager at such a young age, no... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, there seems to be nothing usual about this heya anyway. Just look at the group photo in another thread... prompted me to call this heya a bunch of Hoosiers, as in the film from 1986 with that name. Masutoo could be the coming Sekitori for the heya which would save it, so let's just wait and see.
Takanorappa Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 Toth's father is a wrestling coach and his mother is a former skier. His younger sister who is going to high school is doing fencing. Toth started taking wrestling lessons from his father since he was young and practicing sumo since he turned 13 years old. Sounds like a great pedigree. Gets the fundamentals of grappling from his father, footwork from his mom, and a tactical eye for attack from his sister. Nice! (Sign of approval) I look forward to seeing him in the future. I just hope he can quickly get comfortable with the language/cultural/food thing. While in Kyushu, he was receiving a "special" treatment as his own mawashi was not yet ready so he has been using the oyakata's "white" mawashi. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Given this recent thread concerning washing of mawashi... Yuck! (Hugging...)
Leella Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 Hello everybody! Thank you Jonosuke for the topic! So I am Attila's girlfriend. I would like to get some information about him. I hope I will write here if I hear some informations which there will be new for your... If somebody can send a photo about him and the beya, please! Sorry but my English not perfect!
Faustonowaka Posted December 16, 2004 Posted December 16, 2004 Great to have you with us, Leella!! (Clapping wildly...) Maybe you could give us some background info on your boyfriend Atilla too. Hope you will enjoy this forum
Jonosuke Posted December 16, 2004 Author Posted December 16, 2004 (edited) Hello everybody! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> While looking at this page , I did find your name. I do not want to embarrass you or anything but you also compete in amateur sumo and you were in Riesa this year with others from Hungary including Attila, right? So it means you have met some people on this forum already... Edited December 16, 2004 by Jonosuke
Sasanishiki Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 Actually, the Riesa results have accidentatlly merged with the European Junior Results (I think). So, that is not a clear picture of who appeared or won at the World Championships (except for the first 3 women's categories in the larger font text.
Leella Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 Hi! I wasn't in Riesa, because it was the World Championship for adults. And I am stiil very young to the junior ( in Europe) age...I am 16 years old. I was in the Junior Europen Championship which was in Hungary...I was the youngest so I won the 5th place. I was very sad because I tranied a lot for the competition... (Clapping wildly...) Attila wasn't in Riesa too...the same reason. ( because the adult team travelled) Nut in the Europen Championship he won a silvermedal in +115 kgs and won a gold medal in the open category...after that in the summer he and other two boys travelled to Osaka the Junior World Championship...and here he won the silver medal.
Jonosuke Posted December 17, 2004 Author Posted December 17, 2004 Thanks Sasanishiki and Lilla for clarification. Perhaps one day not so soon you two may meet each at one of these championships. I guess Lilla will be still young for the next year's Osaka tournament. Anyway Lilla, when you are talking to Attila next time, hope you can let us know how he is doing over there and perhaps let him know about us too.
Leella Posted December 18, 2004 Posted December 18, 2004 I don't know anything new about Attila. I think tomorrow or next week he will call me on phone. He said he'd got little few free time... The last week he told me his one day. They get up at 7:30 ( I'm not sure in it), after that tey go to train and when tey finish the training they go to eat after that they have to do some housework, than they relaxe after that there is training..... It is too boring for me. Every day is the same...
Leella Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 He can speak in English, but not very well....but I think you can spak with him, because he understand the language. I don't know what you will take him...I think the food ok...He likes reaing newspaper, but I think he can't read the English newspaper...so I don't know. I think in Japan there aren't any Hungarian book and newspaper...
Kintamayama Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Bumping this up, as it seems the lad is being bumped around a bit. He is 1-2 at Jonidan west 61, which is not a good sign, unless he is injured.
Kishinoyama Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 Hello everybody! So I am Attila's girlfriend. I would like to get some information about him. I hope I will write here if I hear some informations which there will be new for your... If somebody can send a photo about him and the beya, please! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> WELCOME WELCOME... We hope you will write here as well!! (Sign of approval)
kotooshu_bulgaria Posted May 13, 2005 Posted May 13, 2005 Hello everybody! (Sign of approval) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not to discourage you, but the post you referred to was from five months ago and Attila's girlfriend has not been posting here since last basho, her last question being whether a 2-1 record is good or not. So I am not sure whether we could expect too many useful posts from her... (Punk rocker...)
Masutinoo Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 I as a Hungarian have always special interest in the only Hungarian rikishi Masutoo. Six years after his debut he is 24 years old, not so young any longer, but now he reached his career high, 4-3 at Ms37. I would be interested in the opinion of the more experienced sumo fans and those lucky ones who can see him in life, what is your opinion about his sumo, what can be his career predicton, can he reach Juryo?
ilovesumo Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Very nice fellow he is, that for sure. He lives and trains in a lovely Heya, his Oyakata is great. I wish him all the best and hope he can make it. Now that Masunoyama, his Heyamate becomes a Sekitori I bet there will be much more degeiko. Good for all em Chiganoura-boys.
