Oh no, Kairiki finally get a (small but still...) KK in jonidan and now he's absent (In jonokuchi...) I know he's a low ranker but anyone know or heard anything?

A bit off-topic, but to me, the two GLARING absences this sad basho are Kitazakura and Asashoryu. They were both my great favorites when I started watching Sumo in 2001, and to have them both retire at the same time is a double blow... (In a state of confusion...)

However, I shall battle on! (Beaten...) (Lifting weights...)

Kainofuji has injured his eye of all things during keiko so that explains his absence!

Harry, no idea on Kairiki but will see if I can find something out!!

Thanks Viki!

You're welcome!! :-)

I'll post all the results on facebook so long as it lets me log in with mobile phone.. so you can check for your "cuties" results!!! :-)

Kabutoiwa was absent for his match today listed as "sick" so maybe the flu or something else.

I was really disappointed!!!!! (Clapping wildly...) :'-( :'-( :'-( :'-( :'-(

Sad to see Myogiryu out again. Hopefully he'll be back next basho at around ms50

Well, the injury turned out be a very serious one. Had the surgery shortly after Hatsu Basho. Some people close to the heya said something of being kyujo until maybe Aki-Basho. Oyakata said he has some hope for the Natsu-Basho but rather thinks Myogiryu will make his comeback in Nagoya down in Sandanme. It's such a pity!

At least I was positively surprised to see him in a rather good mood at the heya in spite of the serious situation. Hopefully he has the attitude to stay optimistic and feisty thus coming back with a lot of energy given that the knee will heal properly.

Thanks for the info, I hope he comes back healthy, whenever he does come back.

Day 3 MIA

Two rikishi did not appear for their day 3 matches:

East Sandanme 92 HOKUTONAMI (0-2) (East Sandanme 92 TAKASHOMA (1-1) won by default)

East Jonidan 28 YUWA (0-2) (West Jonidan 30 HIKOSAKA (1-1) won by default)

Kintamayama is reporting (in another message) that J12 Shirononami is going kyujo. You can read about it here.

Given the schedule for day 4 is already out, I imagine he will have a fusen match on day 4 and his kyujo will not officially start until day 5.

Hokutonami injured his knee badly in his match on Monday. It hurt to watch it and as they wheeled him out! That much pain on a man's face means it really hurt!!

Day 6

After what may be one of the shortest kyujo stints on record, J12W SHIRONONAMI (1-3; absent from day 5) is returning as of day 6.

Read about it here.

Not official yet but Fujinohana has influenza. Today I picked him up from the hospital. He is not allowed to do sumo with the flu and shouldn't. He said he'll be kyujo 5 days. at 2-2 he needs the gift of the torikumi gods to give him two matches between Friday and Senshuraku but it isn't likely (Holiday feeling...)

Fujinohana actually is 1-3, so no KK possible at all if he can't recover within the next two days...
