It's always my speculative intai, although I wanted to stop all my speculations :-D . I don't have any deeper informations, all who are close to the heya only make guesses by their own. Just thought the heya party instead of an expensive hotel could be a sign for it, but it could also have thousands of other reasons.

Yeah, but... People are creatures of habit, you know, and (if I got this right) the Japanese more than most. So this worries me a little bit. How many of the sponsors will be faithful to the heya once Kaio retires? Impossible for you to answer, I suppose...

Well, I have no idea, but there is the fear that some big sponsors will leave, when Kaio retires, but there are heya which have to struggle more than Tomozuna.

Hi Fay

Does Kainowaka get singled out more than the others by the upper ranks when they do degeiko? I only had the pleasure of watching Tomozuna beya keiko once but would it be correct to say he was Kaio's preferred sparing partner because of his size? He is the nicest bloke so I imagine this would be good for his strength and fitness.

Also isn't there quite a big death toll amongst elderly japanese people from choking on mochi?Does it all get eaten on the day or does some of it get given out to guests.I would hate to think that it ends up as a form of euthenasia.I suppose if you have to go that way the best mochi would be that made by a sumotori.My nieces and nephews go mad for it.I know its sacreligious but mochi with strawberry jam is delicious.

I must say I only saw Kaio 2 or 3 times really making bouts during asageiko. One time with retired Kaido, who was his favourite trainingspartner and the other times with Kainowaka. Never saw a bout with him and Kaishoryu. The other times I was in the heya Kaio only made some stretching or "used" Kainowaka for butsukari keiko and told us we should come between the basho to see "real keiko".

<31st December>

We, Tomozuna-beya, had days throughout this year surrounded by fans from Japan and from overseas. Kaio has tried to go on to dohyo no matter what difficulties attacked him and all Wakaishu have supported Kaio. Four shindeshi from this spring have been cheerful and fine.

It was a tough year for NSK with series of troubles which we have never had.

2007 is closing with many thoughts.

Thank you very much for your support for our rikishi and for entire NSK throughout the year.

From all members of Tomozuna-beya

~ After Hatsubasho~

Kaio will pay attention to take care of his physical condition as usual and will do his best continuously.

He thanks for your supports.

The comments after Hatsubasho from the Wakaishu are as follows.

<Kaishoryu>

I wanted to win one more bout. I do more keiko, prepare myself to move on dohyo with strong confident and aim 5 wins in Osaka.

<Kaishinho>

I had a strong spirit in Hatsubasho because it is the first basho of the year, however, after I got a first win, I lost 4 bouts straight. I thought too much and I couldn't control my movement. I will try my best in Osaka without

On the 2nd day, we went to a ranch. We enjoyed horse riding, buggy cars and jeep; some tried shooting; some went to the film studio of Jurassic Park. Tomozuna-oyakata enjoyed horse riding and driving a buggy car.

On the 3rd day, some went to enjoy playing golf. Some enjoyed marine sports.

In the evening, we saw a beautiful sunset on the way to see a Polynesian-show.

Then, we went to a seafood restaurant. We all bought beach sandals and T-shirts on the first day. So we all wore them. Only Kainomiya enjoy wearing aloha-shirts!

The last day, we all woke up 4:00AM and went to an airport. Some were busy for shopping.

On 24th, Sunday, a documentary of Kaisei was broadcasted in the east of Japan.

When Kaisei joined our heya, a documentary film company offered us to make a film about Kaisei.

They went to Brazil and started filming from the first moment - Kaisei's departure to Japan until joining us two years ago.

In the film, Tomozuna-oyakata, Kaio and other rikishi from Tomozuna Beya commented their passion, hopes and life etc. Therefore, the film itself was called

<Comment on 1st April>

Cherry blossom is so beautiful here in Tokyo! The picture is the one from a park near by.

We can see similar scenes everywhere.

Sakura2008.jpg

The spring-jungyo started on the 30th. Kaio, Kaisenryu, Kainokura and Tomokazu joined it.

It was the first time for Kainokura and Tomokazu. Tomokazu went there as a tsukibito of a senior gyoji.

Kaio got a fist prize at Ise-shrine Jungyo!!!

The rest of our rikishi started keiko yesterday. Kaishinho continuously works for Kyoshujo as well.
