Asashosakari 18,837 Posted July 22, 2006 (edited) very jumbled translation on the Rijicho's message on English language NHK news tonight but the message came across that 13 wins in 4 consecutive basho is the target now - if not 14 this time (a statistical impossiblity of course). be careful Adachinoryu-san, you might get accused of bringing up his ozeki run to support his yokozuna promotion, which according to some un-named members, is apparently a cardinal sin, or at least it is when i mention the same thing. Honestly, if that's what Kitanoumi said, it sounds like classic CYA to me, especially so late in the basho (if Hakuho was 10-4 now, the point would be moot)...my reading would be that they're fully prepared to promote Hakuho based on 14-1Y, 13-2J, and just need something to placate the inevitable "but what about the two-yusho rule?" complaints. Hakuho's last two pre-Ozeki basho are just the most convenient thing to grab onto - it doesn't mean they've actually taken them into consideration. If those two records by Hakuho had been worse, we'd hear some other excuse now..."Asashoryu's and Ozumo's need for a rival Yokozuna" or whatever. Kotoku 0 Posted July 23, 2006 (edited) There is a world of difference in attitude, and desire when it comes to Asashoryu and Hakuho. My wife loves the yokozuna. He's the first top gun she has admired since she was a kid and listened to Taiho on NHK as he cleaned up the dohyo, while her and her granny made dinner. She has a couple of cousins in Kumamoto in the "waste disposal business" that visit us once a year when they do the annual trip to Yasakuni... -L- They have that same look in their eyes that Asa has... and when the get to drinking sho-chu, they are funny as hell, like a couple of pit bulls with a beach ball :- 0 I think Asashoryu -- if he keeps his mind clear, and isn't hurt -- is one of a half-dozen greats in the past century. But then I though Baruto would go 13-2, so what do I know? And Super Sumo Fan, thanks for what you do. I had a bunch of friends from the Corps, when I did the show. We'd met once every Tokyo Basho for years. Great guys. One of them left, and returned to civilian life. Was managing a Costco, said screw it, re-upped and is doing some sort of quartermaster gig. Your speling is fine, and considere the sorce... -L- G#d bless you... :- ) Edited July 23, 2006 by Kotoku

I defintely agree on Asashoryu, but of course he is my favorite. And Super Sumo Fan, thanks for what you do. I had a bunch of friends from the Corps, when I did the show. Thanks brother. I go back to the "sand box" in a few months, but on the up side, I retire 9 months after I get back. Your speling is fine, and considere the sorce... -L- G#d bless you... :- ) Thanks again, I didn`t know being an English major was a requirement for this forum. (Clapping wildly...) Hananotaka 8 Posted July 23, 2006 (edited) you mean "right" ... right? Oddly enough, yes. I'm 99% sure that I actually typed "right", so no one's more amazed than me that it's in my post as "left". But then, it was damn late when I wrote that. Edit: Ah, perhaps I was at first thinking of things from Hakuho's view (going to the left), and then later changed to a Asashouryuu view (right arm injured), but I didn't do a complete edit. Beware when posting late...or drunk! Edited July 23, 2006 by Hananotaka
Zuikakuyama 1 Posted July 23, 2006 Zensho's hard to come by, Asashoryu will not let this chance slip just like that. Asashoryu is beatable, Hakuho had done that. He just have to do it consecutively to prove that he is worthy of the Yokozuna title. After all, if Hakuho is promoted to Yokozuna early, and if he cannot once beat Asashoryu in a yusho battle, every fan would be disappointed. I predict some disappointed fans. Asashoryu will get his Zensho. Hakuho will get promoted, in the near future, not necessarily after this tourney, but it will take a few years before he can consistantly defeat Asashoryu. Do you know what you are talking about? Asashoryu still has to get a single win over Hakuho in 2006. So far Hakuho already is consistently winning with 2-0 this year, and I won't be surprised at all if he wins tomorrow too. It should be a good bout in any case. Only if you dont count the yusho-kettei sen win of shoryu in March (which in my book is more important than a regulation bout).
