Greetings to all. I have just joined this forum. I have been in Okinawa for almost 7 years. I am in the US military. I really love to watch sumo. My favorite Rikish are Asashoryu, Baruto, Chiyotaikai and Asasekiryu. I have enjoyed reading this forum for only a few months, but have followed Sumo for about 6 years. My wife is Japanese and I have learned a lot from my wife`s father.

Welcome to the forum SSF (Punk rocker...)

Chuck in your salt (Dohyo-iri...) and join the fray.

I'm not trying to be funny but isn't Okinawa where Mr Miyagi from the film Karate kid is supposed to have come from, did they ever film there?

SoCal was the location for Best Kid (as it's called in Japan), and Hawaii was for the second film.

Welcome from a fellow Ryukyu dweller ;-)

What branch / field are you?

I am a Marine and will retire here in Japan in less than 2 years.

(Punk rocker...) to the Forum! Glad you could join us! (Dohyo-iri...)

Thank you very much. I have enjoyed sumo for many years, but have problems finding someone to talk about it with. ;-)

Thank you, I have enjoyed "throwing my 2 cents in" and getting to talk sumo. Yes Mr. Miyagi was supposed to be from Okinawa. His character was based on an actual Okinawan. My wife told me that the real "mr. Miyagi" died a few years ago. Thanks again.

I did not know that Pat Morita died last December. I was in Iraq and getting news about the real world was very difficult.
