Baruto in Makuuchi Version 2

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the info. Baruto wins, so one more talking point before the next banzuke.

EDIT: Bix beats me to it...

I am glad to see that Baruto managed to finish the tournament in a solid fashion. Maybe the more knowledgeable forum members can bring up comparisons from sumo history. I have a feeling that 9-6 in 2nd basho in Makuuchi is a good result.

His comments regarding the losses confirm what I already suspected that fighting while semi-injured and/or in pain can take the spirit out the contest. Mental toughness could be a deciding factor when two not-so-healthy wrestlers compete.

This time the match with yokozuna did not happen so it is something I look forward to during the next basho.

Well, should the promote Miyabiyama, then a sekiwake slot opens up as well.

Sw Kisenosato, Ke Kokkai, Kw Baruto?

Pardon me, but is there a "technical issue" in having 3 sekiwakes?

Well, there is the issue of having at least two sekiwake and two komusubi. But I've just read the news that Miyabiyama did not make it. Then they would all slide down a rank, of course.

If it was a straight toss up, and only one would make it, id have to say baruto after senshuraku. Notice the lack of respect by kokkai because he thought he won? he barely bowed leaving the main area. If im not mistaken (my japanese isnt what it was 10 years ago) Kitanoumi kind of denounced that lack of respect there, and said it was still decent sumo, and a good call, even if kokkai lost you always need to show respect.

Baruto's interview with Estonian TV

About the tournament:

I am satisfied with the tournament myself. It is too early to wish for more. I value the win over Kotooushuu the most. The losses.. Well a loss is a loss, the most important thing is that I wrestle well. I want to win of course but even if I lose I want to put in good effort. I hit a crisis for a few days when I couldn't get myself going.

About the ranking for next tournament

I think I'll hear about approximate rank by Wednesday.. I can't tell you anything now.

About preparations for next basho

I'll be able to catch my breath for a week or so.. to take some time for myself. In one week we'll have another training camp. You can't rest for too long here.
