He had a terrible tachi-ai. Really slow and nervous looking. (So much for just going out and enjoying his sumo)

And he continued to be nervous today as well.. (another matta two days in a row (Punk rocker...) )

Hopefully he pulls himself together after today's win.

Well, it doesn't look like The Sherrif is gonna make it. His loss today was particularly ungraceful as he kind flop-landed sideways onto the edge of the dohyo.

Maybe he can finish with 8 or 9 wins and have another chance at it next basho.

Oh well.

I ran through the too many ozeki thinking in my mind as well. But if I remember correctly when Miyabi was last promoted we had Maru, Taka and Akebono as yokazuna + four other ozeki. That was an even more crowded top of the banzuke than we have today.

Just a slight correction here. Miyabiyama's first basho as Ozeki was Nagoya 2000. This was also the first banzuke that Takanonami was dropped to Sekiwake after two makekoshi at Ozeki. So, while technically Miya and Taka were both Ozeki together, that was only because of the rules regarding promotion and demotion.

Miyabiyama did not appear on a 5 Ozeki banzuke until Kyushu 2000 (after Kaio's promotion and Musoyama's kadoban drop to Sekiwake and subsequent repromotion.
