Greetings from Japan

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to say hello. I've been lurking around here reading as many of the posts as I've been able to. I'm new to the sport. I'm living in Japan right now. I'm retired military and my spouse is still in the military. We were stationed here once before and wanted to come back. I started watching sumo and thinking this is just a bunch of very big guys giving each other wedgies! Somewhere all that changed and I got hooked. My kids just shake their heads at me and I know they think there mom has gone crazy! Little do they know how short a drive that is! lol I don't speak the language, and I don't get the English version of NHK but I watch it whenever its on. If I can't figure something out, I'll ask so be patient with me. I can be taught (eventually)!

In my case there are the colleagues who call me a little crazy, well Asashoryu or some other sumo pics hang on my side of the wall and on every other wall in the department the soccer worlcup schedule (Showing respect...)

Welcome, Phoenix! I see we are both Sadogatake supporters (Sign of approval)

There is hope for your family yet (Whistling...) : here in Holland mom succeeded in getting her husband, the kids and a couple of friends crazy about sumo as well (Showing respect...)

:-) to the Forum, Phoenix! My husband is an avid sumo fan as well, but the rest of the family thinks I'm NUTS, too! My dogs freak out when I yell at the matches in excitement! :-) It makes things interesting and adds a little more fun to their life... (Clapping wildly...)

Enjoy the Forum!

Welcome to the forum Phoenix (Hugging...)

I send you the traditional forum invitation to 'Chuck in your salt (Clapping wildly...) and join the fray.'

My family and friends dont think I'm nuts, they know I'm nuts :-) but that has nothing to do with sumo-They just think its a little weird but I'm the type of guy that doesn't really care what people think. :-)

:-) Phoenix! Don't be afraid to ask questioned and you can always search the forum and try and get information that way. FWIW, I became interested in sumo while I was stationed at Yokota AFB. (Clapping wildly...)
