AsaMoe 0 Posted September 24, 2005 Toki, 2-12 from J5 will get down to a position, where a mk could/will lead to demotion from Juryu. Does anyone have an idea, how far Toki will continue ?
Azumashida 1 Posted September 24, 2005 Toki, 2-12 from J5 will get down to a position, where a mk could/will lead to demotion from Juryu. Actually, if he doesn't win on senshuraku, it's possible he'll be demoted already on the next banzuke. Hopefully he'll get a win...

Does anyone have an idea, how far Toki will continue ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Both Toki and Buyuzan appeared to be suffering from an illness during the basho. They both kind of collapsed in exhaustion on the dohyo following separate extended matches. Buyuzan has been on a serious slide for the last couple basho. Hopefully, they will get back to health before Kyushu.

Not this time, nope. (Applauding...)

Doitsuyama 1,192 Posted September 24, 2005 You are pretty gullible. Someone write "appear ill", and you already ask for the specific illness. What can I say?
Asashosakari 19,511 Posted September 24, 2005 Honestly, I don't see that Toki is necessarily ill. It's been evident for several basho now that fewer and fewer rikishi are easy victims to his attack anymore. Before the basho I thought he'd be able to buy himself some time because all the recent new arrivals to Juryo don't know his style yet, but their physical advantages seem to be strong enough to overcome that, so they just wait out Toki's initial onslaught, and then that's that. Toki's never been one to have a good backup plan of course, but even his desperation moves aren't working this time. Reminds me very much of Oikari last year - he's doing all he knows to do, but it's just not enough anymore. At any rate, the clincher was the loss against Raiko...if you've watched Juryo this basho, you've probably noticed that Raiko's offensive contributions to most bouts are close to zero (and his defense has been only slightly better), but even he managed to just wait out Toki until he had nothing left in the tank. Not a good sign if even Makushita-strength rikishi are on to you already.

Doitsuyama 1,192 Posted September 24, 2005 Well, I would rather question in first place if they are ill at all. I mean, Asojima clearly states he doesn't really know that, how should he have a hunch which specific illness it is. But ok, maybe the question wasn't really directed at him, but at the general public. Then I guess it is somewhat plausible. So I happily apologize if I offended anyone. kawika 123 Posted September 24, 2005 I guess is that if he falls out of juryo, he retires.

Kaikitsune Makoto 209 Posted September 25, 2005 Toki looks like all he has left is that harite. Pushing power is no longer enough to even set up decent pulls and foes can quite easily withstand the attack. Those harite are still as noisy as ever but Toki is going away. That illness-theory is not so far-fetched. He does look "ill" in a way that as if he can't really use his body fully and something tired in his body. It is possible that he has an injury to his shoulder or some other body part making it impossible for him to generate power in pushes. Don't know how he could improve so much for Kyushu that he would stay in juryo (if he stays this time).
Azumashida 1 Posted September 25, 2005 I suppose he'll just save his sekitorihood this time with his win on senshuraku. 3-12 at J5E should just do the trick.
Sakana 46 Posted September 25, 2005 He did his time, I think he should retire. (maybe I say that because I don't really like his sum
Zuikakuyama 1 Posted September 25, 2005 Azumazeki Oyakata commented on day 14 that Toki had no drive to train anymore, so I think he will be out soon.
