Greetings from sunny Southern California. Discovered SF at the beginning of the Nagoya basho. What a godsend!

I was an avid sumo fan while in Japan for 6 years in the mid 1970's, but I discovered that the US is a sumo info wasteland when I returned from Japan. Since 2000, I had found scgroup, goo.ne and banzuke which provided enough info to renew my interest and track the current upper level rikishi. SF has reopened the whole sumo world for me through its links and its absolutely fascinating discussions.

My heroes were the old geezers now sitting in the top layer of the Kyokai, and they were a pretty impressive lot in their heyday. (See Doitsuyama's masterwork on rikishi strength.) My current heroes are Asashoryu, Kaio, Kyokushuzan, Kotonowaka and Kaiho (Sadness!). Unfortunately, I expect the final four of these to be gone before the end of the Hatsu basho. I also have an empathetic attachment to Ichinoya.

I will probably be entering occasional pithy comments in the forums to serve as cannon fodder for the illustrious commentators who inhabit the forum. Be gentle with me.

Welcome to our humble abode, sir. It will be great to have insights about the older rikishi from someone who was there..

welcome to the forum . Always nice to hear from people who lived in Japan and have watched the bouts up-close. Would love to hear stories for those "old geezers".

BTW ... i think that Kyokushuzan will not go intai anytime soon , and if Kaiho's injury is not as bad as it looked, he will be back.... (at least i hope)

You mean we got another Ichinoya fanatic here...

We have a good number of knowledgible people here from So. Cal already and it will be great to have you join in our discussion and hear your perspective. We can always use "pithy" comments whenever thirst hits (Showing respect...)

Welcome abroad.

How do you do, Asojima-san.

I am one of a few Japanese members in a forum.

I sometimes muster all of my poor knowledge about English to write the talk of old Sumo.

In that case, I am thinking as important the opinion of my friend of the age of the same about as you.

If an opportunity visits some day, please tell us that you were seen.

安壮島さん、大歓迎! (Showing respect...)

下手な英語で失礼致しました。
