Zentoryu 154 Posted May 22, 2005 (Standings in next post down) A new single basho RotoSumo scoring record was set in the Makushita division (read on). MAKUUCHI: The Top division Yusho goes to Shin-Makuuchi Takashoryu, who finished ahead of Akemisamaru by a comfortable 26 points. Congratulations to the M12e for a spectacular Makuuchi debut. Our Yokozuna candidate Kintamayama was hampered by Kaio's kyuji and finished MK, so he goes back to square one in his pursuit of the cyber tsuna. Heruwejima and Ookihito, our two Ozeki candidates, both finished 8-7, falling well short of the 12 wins needed for promotion. They will remain sekiwake for next basho though, so there's some consolation for them. Kadoban Ozeki Yubiquitoyama continues his up-and-down existence, following last basho's 2-13 with a much better 10-5 this time around. Of the other Ozeki, only Hamanoyama was able to finish above the KK/MK line. Ulsimitsuki, Kintamayama and Maguroyama will all be Kadoban for the Nagoya basho. JURYO: Ketsukai replicates Takashoryu's effort in Makuuchi by winning the Yusho as a shin-Juryo, outpacing Tominishiki by a 31 point margin. Very impressive. There aren't that many candidates for Makuuchi promotion, but then there are that many openings in the top division either. So the next banzuke should be real interesting. MAKUSHITA: Ms1w Golynohana captured the Makushita Yusho and set a new RotoSumo scoring record in the process. His 1606 points are the highest ever recorded in this game, easily eclipsing the old record of 1597 set by Jejima during the Kyushu 2004 basho. Congratulations to him on a brilliant performance. He will find himself in mid-Juryo next basho. Scoring was a bit more spread out compared to last basho, meaning more 6-1's and 5-2's compared to the Haru basho. So the new banzuke should see a lot of movement up and down. JONOKUCHI: Kotochanta barely squeezed by newbie Susamajiiraion, winning the Yusho by only 12 points. Koto-san will see a big bump up the banzuke next basho thanks to this result. Barring some unforeseen problem, everyone with KK has a good shot at being promoted to Makushita. We had record participation numbers again this basho, so continued thanks to everyone for making this game such a huge success. Congrats to all those who finished KK! For those who were MK, there's always next basho!!

Zentoryu 154 Posted May 23, 2005 Before the inevitable question comes... The banzuke will be worked on later this week and will hopefully be out sometime next week. I've got to warn everybody that this banzuke, at first glance, looks like a really complicated one to figure out. All seven Sekiwake and Komusubi managed to get their KK's, meaning the top of Makuuchi is going to be really tight. Also, the bottom of Makuuchi and the top of Makushita are going to be real tricky. I get the feeling that some players aren't going to be too pleased with their new ranks. (In a state of confusion...)

Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted May 23, 2005 Kadoban Ozeki Yubiquitoyama continues his up-and-down existence, following last basho's 2-13 with a much better 10-5 this time around. Of the other Ozeki, only Hamanoyama was able to finish above the KK/MK line. Ulsimitsuki, Kintamayama and Maguroyama will all be Kadoban for the Nagoya basho. I'm already brazing myself for the inevitable 3-12 or 2-13 in Nagoya (Sigh...)

I get the feeling that some players aren't going to be too pleased with their new ranks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Having been incredibly bored for about an hour earlier today, I played a quick game of Guess The Rotosumo Banzuke. :-D Makuuchi and Juryo didn't seem too bad, but I think you're really going to hate the Ms7 to about Ms18 area...loads of people going in and not nearly enough going out. My own 5-2 ended up getting me from Ms22 to Ms16. :-S Well, I hope you can find a better solution (and so do probably a dozen other players who were KK), but if not, at least I already know what's in store...
