wanchanyama 0 Posted May 1, 2005 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...6527338722&rd=1 Can't say that my French is too good, and my Japanese reading is not fantastic. I'm sure that the mawashi does not read Inazuma asin the Yokozuna from 1820/30s. Listed for sale only in France but currently only 100 Euro.
Burainoan 0 Posted May 1, 2005 Looks to me like Sodegaura. don't know if it was ever a shikona, but with a little katakana "ke" in the middle, it's a place name in Chiba - not Ibaraki. fortunately it doesn't appear to be selling, so they won't be defrauding anyone. don't they have places to report stuff like this? Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted May 1, 2005 Well, there was actually a Sodenoura (I suppose that's the correct reading) in Juumaime back in 1792-93. One wonders whether this kesho-mawashi is quite that old though, but I suppose it's possible. If not it has to origin from somewhere else.
Elenrian 0 Posted May 1, 2005 ;-) There is a thread in the French sumo forum, and most of the members thonk it is a swindle...

(Shaking head...) Don't know what happened. Mayve that is why in France only - people may not know and Japan thingy collectors might have more money than........ Otokonoyama 2,735 Posted May 3, 2005 I wonder what a retired Tosa-ken yokozuna's kesho mawashi would go for?
Terarno 46 Posted May 4, 2005 Hi everybody. Several members of the Info-Sumo.net forum wrote to this seller, and we asked him where the mawashi comes from. He dared to say he had it from his wife's grand-grand-father, who of course was an important Japanese family... We've denounced this auction, but Ebay doesn't care.
