Kintamayama 47,310 Posted March 23, 2005 (edited) Chiyohakuhou will be kyujo from tomorrow. He injured his right foot in the match against Daimanazuru today. Looks like he will be back in Makushita next basho. Seems the decision came immediately after he left the dohyo, since he is not on the torikumi for tomorrow, so no fusen for anyone. Doitsuyama 1,259 Posted March 23, 2005 Chiyohakuhou will be kyujo from tomorrow. He injured his right foot in the match against Daimanazuru today. Looks like he will be back in Makushita next basho. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, he was wheeled away... The kyujo notice apparently was in before the Juryo bouts for day 12 were done. No fusen tomorrow, playing a trick on the gamers. (Shaking head...)

Kashunowaka 300 Posted March 23, 2005 Kyujo without fusen loss? I didn't know that was possible in the top divisions.
Kintamayama 47,310 Posted March 23, 2005 Kyujo without fusen loss? I didn't know that was possible in the top divisions. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Me neither. It struck me as very odd.
Sasanishiki 57 Posted March 23, 2005 Ah, lovely to see some unpredictability from the world of sumo! We seem to learn something new all the time.
Yubiquitoyama 4 Posted March 24, 2005 (edited) Kyujo without fusen loss? I didn't know that was possible in the top divisions. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think this is possible when the rikishi in question would be facing a Makushita rikishi or at the very least the schedule can easily be redone causing a Makushita rikishi not to have a bout. I think I had a discussion (which didn't actually lead to anything) on this on the mailing list several years ago, caused by the lack of fusensho loss for Tagaryu (at that point ranked J09e) when he retired on day 6 of the 1991 May basho. Nice to have the possibility confirmed at last (I wasn't entirely sure it wasn't errors in my data)... Now checking this, it seems there are other precedences: 1990.03.14: J11e Goken goes kyujo 1992.03.13: J11w Kaio goes kyujo 1995.09.03: J10e Ryudo goes kyujo 1997.05.11: J11w Kotogaume retires Probably some more I missed... Asashosakari 20,274 Posted March 25, 2005 I'm still on vacation, but anyway. (Nodding yes...) I think the following should be the complete list since 1989 (plus Chiyohakuho's case this basho, of course): 1990.03.14: J11e Goken goes kyujo1990.07.13: J8w Masurao retires 1991.05.06: J9e Tagaryu retires 1992.03.13: J11w Kaio goes kyujo 1995.09.03: J10e Ryudo goes kyujo 1995.09.12: J9w Kotofuji retires 1997.05.11: J11w Kotogaume retires 1997.07.14: J8e Zenshinyama goes kyujo Interestingly, two cases in 1995.09.
