Withdrawal Notice Message

Recommended Posts

On the Absence/Withdrawal page for Makushita and Sandanme rikishi on the Japanese version of the NSK's Goo sumo website, there's a notice at the bottom that I've never seen before, and isn't on the other 2 pages for Absence/Withdrawals. I'll try to paste it in here:

インターネット端末で表示できない漢字が使われている四股名は、ひらがなで表示しております。

If that's garbage for your display, it's at the very bottom of the page at http://sumo.goo.ne.jp/hon_basho/kyujo/kyuj...asyo=509&kaku=3

I think it says something about some internet terminal not displaying kanji in shikona so they're going to use Hiragana, but wonder if someone could be kind enough to verify that.

You're right. This text is on every page where such a kanji exists. For example on every Juryo page because of the You-kanji in Youtsukasa.

It threw me, because the absence/withdrawal pages in Japanese don't replace kanji with hiragana (or show both, as the banzuke pages do), and I've not seen that notice on them before (and it's still on only 1 of the 3 pages).

Thanks for the confirmation!

The blurb is there because of Ms22e Kaishoryu's middle kanji.
