Former Sekiwake Dewanishiki died today at the age of 79. He had pancreas cancer. He entered Sumo in May of 1940, at Dewanoumi-beya. He participated in 77 Makuuchi basho and retired at the age of 39. He was the first rikishi to get the shukun-sho in September 1947, when the special prizes were first introduced. After he retired, he assumed the name of Tagonoura Oyakata till he retired. Upon retiring, he became a Sumo broadcaster and was famous for his humorous style.
