New RotoSumo Banzuke Hatsu 2005

Recommended Posts

(Full banzuke is in the next post down)

After numerous drafts, I've finally completed the new banzuke.

First I would like to mention that since we now have 5 Ozeki (possibly 6 if

Ookihito returns to the rank after next basho) the bar for achieving Ozeki

promotion has been raised a bit. It used to be 30 wins over three basho

(with at least one of those at Sekiwake) to get promoted to Ozeki. Now a

rikishi will need to achieve at least 33 wins over that same time frame.

Going by this guideline, Heruwejima can achieve promotion next basho with 10

wins. Doitsuyama would need a 12-3 performance and Azumaryu would have to go

13-2.

Jejima returns to Sanyaku for the first time since Haru 2003. He had spent

10 consecutive basho in the Maegashira ranks between then and now.

Pastanoyama is returning to the Sanyaku ranks for the first time since

Nagoya 2004.

There were 5 promotions from Juryo but, unlike last basho, only 1 of those 5

rikishi is making his or her Makuuchi Debut. Kitakachiyama spent 12 basho in

Makushita and Juryo before finally earning a trip up to the big time. Bravo

to the M10w!

Juryo division Yusho winner Unagiyutaka is returning to the top division for

the first time since Haru 2004. Unagi-san has had a rollercoaster ride up

and down the banzuke. The M6e was as high as Sekiwake and as low as Juryo 7

west. Tokimori, Fukurou and Sashimaru are all returning after one basho in

Juryo.

There were seven candidates for promotion to Juryo from Makushita, but only

4 slots available to fill. Packamawashi got the automatic promotion with the

zensho yusho from Ms10. The other three spots went to Takashoryu, Gunterao

and Taka. So that meant that Choshu-yuki, Zenjimoto and Bufoyama were left

on the outside looking in despite having promotable records. Sorry guys,

that's the luck of the banzuke.

All four new Juryo are making their Sekitori debuts, with Gunterao having

waited the longest to get there. The J10e had spent 10 basho in the lower

ranks before finally being promoted. So congratulations to all of them.

Makushita expanded by two ranks to Ms38.

That's all for now, I hope to see all of you again in January.

Special thanks to Asashosakari for some banzuke making assistance (he knows

what I'm talking about).

Is there any special reason why there is no Sandanme division in Roto?

There were 5 promotions from Juryo but, unlike last basho, only 1 of those 5

rikishi is making his or her Makuuchi Debut. Kitakachiyama spent 12 basho in

Makushita and Juryo before finally earning a trip up to the big time. Bravo

to the M10w!

I finally made it! ;-) (Sign of approval) ;-) After two years of hard training! ;-) I'm sure nobody remembers that I took the last place in the first ever Roto Basho. That was the fight for ranks, I totally lost it and had to move up on the banzuke from the bottom. But I don't regret it, it is much fun to go up and get promotions. So far I was never demoted to the lower division in any of my sumo games and let's stay with that ;-)

Maybe not enough players?

Good job on the banzuke making, as always, only now I say it from a more objective point of view as I no longer play the game.

"I'll be back." Said in very bad Arnie impersonation. ;-)

Is there any special reason why there is no Sandanme division in Roto?

Jonokuchi functions as the entry division, like in real sumo. It's there for players to try the game out and decide if they like it or not. That way I can keep the ranks of Makushita relatively free of the "one and out" players.

Once Makushita expands to Ms60 I'll add a regular Sandanme division. That expansion has slowed a bit due to an abnormal number of regular players with multiple abscences dropping off the banzuke recently.

Jonokuchi will always be there as the entry division, regardless of how many new divisions get added in the future. It will feed into the next highest division, whether that division is Jonidan, Sandanme or Makushita (as it is now).

Congratulations for getting promotion to makuuchi! I have a long way ahead of me to achieve this.

And, Witaj na forum Kitakachiyama ! (Welcome...)

A witam, witam. But I think we better stop using Polish here. Others may go mad ;-)
