Day 9 results and day 10 pairings

Recommended Posts

Again all five leaders won, the last day any of them lost was day 5. This will change tomorrow as Kaio and Hakuho form an interesting matchup. The next tier had a lot of losers, with only Kotooshu of the five winning and thus the only Makuuchi at 7-2. Asashoryu faces the last "easy" opponent tomorrow before taking the Ozeki, Sekiwake and Hakuho.

Komusubi Tochinonada lost the fourth match in a row and at the current rate it looks like Hakuho will replace him as Komusubi, even if he possibly would go to Sekiwake normally (pending his final score of course).

Kotoshogiku is the sole Juryo leader as Ishide lost against Wakatoba. Aminishiki lost in Makuuchi, so only Gojoro and Kinkaiyama join Ishide at 7-2 with wins today.

Lot of excellent bouts today, some were one-sided good ones and some real mammoth duels.

Kisenosato-Roho was the cream of the cream. A lot of power consumed by both in a entertaining action-rich bout. Roho won with a throw at the end but the whole bout was a real 50-50 and power vs power. Tomorrow another mini-classic between Kotooshu and Kisenosato. Both look very genki and it should have a lot of extra charge.

I don't see anyone able to stop Shogun in juryo in yusho race. Many tough foes left for him though as Harunoyama is back to his super sturdy self and there are other good ones yet left for him.

Tomorrow KaioU-Hakuho is the main bout in addition to Osh-Kise. Roho-Sakke could turn out fine too and Taikai gets Mickey.

Wakanosato still looks good and patient. 8-1 and a key role in this basho. Tomorrow Tenho shouldn't be a problem.

Toyozakura has lost everything and has been the most pathetic rag doll for 3 days in a row now and has now lost 7 in a row. Asanowaka is at the same level.
