Long day for ex-Tosayutaka today, he had the fourth and the last (seventh) shift as part of his regular assignments, and took over in the first shift of the day for Edagawa.

If they stick with the regular rotation and don't make any adjustments for Otowayama's lower seniority compared to Edagawa, he should be making his debut right in the head shimpan seat, in shift four during makushita, and then reappear in the second half of makuuchi in the timekeeper position.

Looks like he was under the white tassel (the non-timekeeper seat) for both shifts, accounting for his lack of experience. He was taking it seriously and said his hip hurt afterwards due to sitting too rigidly in the same position.

Futagoyama-oyakata (former Ozeki Miyabiyama) is also absent now due to an injury near the lower back - his replacement is Wakafuji-oyakata (former Maegashira Otsukasa).

Jk12w Gonoumi

Raiho and Gonoumi will fight each other on Day 13, both having been injured during the Hatsu basho and absent since.

Déjà vu for Minorufuji, who will fight Jk17e Wakasasaki - still seeking his first career win - for the second basho in a row on Day 13.

 

Assuming they don't retire, the following rikishi will be banzuke-gai for the Kyushu basho:

Jk4e Arise - suffered a bad knee injury during the Haru basho.

Jk8w Satotanaka - no longer shown on the Nishiiwa-beya site, so he likely will be on the intai list.

After my earlier comment I checked the Day 11 video, and oddly enough Tokitsukaze also had a non-standard position on Day 11...but not for his Edagawa replacement stint at the start of the day: For that one he just took the seat Edagawa would have occupied (East side), as we'd probably expect for an emergency replacement. For his regular shift #4 he was expected to be in the non-timekeeper muko-shomen slot, but for some reason he and Futagoyama switched places and Tokitsukaze ended up on the East side there as well. They kept that same non-standard arrangement for shift #7, too.

I was thinking they did that so Tokitsukaze could do all three shifts with the same view, but with the news of the Futagoyama kyujo I wonder if the switch was actually made for Futagoyama's benefit so he could get through one more day before replacing him. I've never really considered if some of the five positions might be more comfortable to sit in than others, but maybe...?

Mitoryu and Shirokuma are both out according to the Kyokai site. Both guys struggled somewhat to stay on their feet after their respective Day 12 bouts.

Needless to say that'd have been considered insane in any western contact sport nowadays. Ozumo certainly is its own beast in many aspects.
