Hi all, having sat out the last 3 tournaments and considered my situation carefully, I am hereby declaring my intai from this game (Bow...) I enjoyed playing for the last few years, and learned a lot about how the torikumi gets put together, but I simply no longer have the time to devote to playing a daily game at the highest level. It was an honor to reach the highest rank, and I am happy to go out with a yusho in the last basho I was able to finish. I will still be on the forum and will lurk in this thread, especially when contemplating torikumi options late in a basho. And I am not ruling the possibility that some day, Reonito II might make an appearance in mae-zumo. But for now, (Sadgoodbyes...)

I understand entirely. To play this game (the best of games, IMO) properly, you need to have the correct amount of time to ponder, which I don't have. Thank you for the wonderful competition over the years.

Too bad Jejima's gamble didn't pay off. And I'd like to hear what @Sakura has to say about Day 2's Maegashira schedule which is done totally different than one year ago.

They certainly changed up the procedure. I'll have to watch to see if this is just a Day 2 thing, a one basho thing, or the new thing going forward,

Let's see if this new rule prevails beyond day 2:

4. Wakatakakage

If they go back to the old method, I have Endo, but this fits day 2 and there's been an overall vibe of not bouncing guys around the rankings as much for matchups. They usually have the guy just outside the sanyaku matchups (Shodai, in this case) slotted in by day 4, so I understand the Meisei pick, but the way this lines up, they would also have to switch the way they've been doing day 4s for... a year-plus, I think? Absolutely possible, but for all we know they could switch it to something mega-goofball and then we're all wrong.

4. I come up with Meisei too - but not 'surely'.

Based on what happened day 2, I would go with Meisei, but unless there's something I'm missing, Onosato vs. Oho instead of vs. Takanosho day 3 is also an interesting development that runs counter to changing the even day rule, and thus I'm inclined to think that "they forgot" is a better explanation for Day 2.  That is, I'm thinking someone new is doing the torikumi, and they were told what they did wrong on Day 2, and then overcorrected for Day 3.

If they switched to doing the sanyaku assignments in a reasonable torikumi order that would make me happy.  The number of basho where they consistently schedule the good matches *not* as the last one of the set (particularly of Ozeki, and also back when they had a bunch of Yokozuna) annoys me: if the intra-sanyaku matches are such a big deal, schedule them appropriately?.    Kirishima v. Takanosho is good evidence for that idea: we shall see what happens on day 4.  I suspect you're right and the overcorrection will go away.
