Ajigawa-beya will have a training camp in Ichinoseki, Iwate, in continuation of the traditional one there of Azumazeki-beya, which closed in 2021 and for about 30 years had camps there, last in 2019.

The 5 day Ajigawa training camp in Ichinoseki started today, first the heya members were at the city hall, asageiko is from the 28th till the 30th

Hiradoumi at Sakaigawa-beya today did 14 bouts with lower ranked, he aims for again double digits as sanyaku, which would put him on ozeki run for Kyushu (they couldn't deny him sekiwake promotion for that)

It's only happened 3 times, the example would be from the 1930's which I don't put any stock in, two more recent instances were 1985 when they were more generous with extra ranks, and 2007 when there was an opening. But just like not re-ranking komusubi based on wins, I think we can infer they wouldn't feel the need to force it.

I ran a simpler, 2-basho query (10-5 K ----> S2) and found no example this century, and the earlier ones were not related to an Ozeki run (they were just more generous in granting extra S slots back then, I guess). So, we shouldn't expect an automatic S promotion for Hiradoumi if he gets 10 wins.

Looks like we haven't had a komosubi promoted directly to ozeki since 1938, so would be interesting to see.

Not gonna happen. In the very specific and highly unlikely scenario in which he gets exactly 10 at Aki, misses out on promotion due to lack of openings, and then goes nuts and gets 13+ at Kyushu to go 33/3, they'll be perfectly happy asking for another double-digit basho at sekiwake at Hatsu.

Now I want to see Hakuho in one of these training reports. Do any of the active guys make it competitive with him? I don't think so.

Would be pretty damning if an active rikishi cannot beat an old flabby out of shape guy. OK, in Kisenosato's or Hakuho's case not so old and flabby but still. Hakuho better get used to losing much more than he did during his active days...

Again Daieisho, Oho and Takanosho were at Sadogatake-beya for degeiko

Kotozakura did 13 bouts that day, also against heya-mate Kotoshoho - apparently he injured his left ankle during the 6th bout, with Oho. After a short rest he continued: "Completely OK, I slipped." - a bit of icing after keiko just in case (the kadoban roulette is on standby)

Onosato doesn't seem to get out much for keiko does he? The results are excellent so far, but hope he's not so insulated that it hinders his development. Then again, maybe some rikishi wear themselves out with all the high level training bouts......feels like I see Kirishima everywhere.
