Sekitori Sweepstake - September 2024

Recommended Posts

M4W Fujiko (my wife) will get, (fingers crossed a good one)..... M10w Roga.

Oh. The Russian hailing from Mongolia (I still don't fully understand that) is at his highest rank, after tabling his first ever KK in Makunouchi. Maybe a repeat?

O1W Yarimotsu is kadoban - will he save his Ozeki rank with J1w Onosho?

Has Onosho's arthritis improved enough for him to enter this basho? Although I am sure Yarimotsu is wishing Onosho well, he may be hoping that Onosho withdraws before the day 1 torikumi is out, so that he gets a chance to switch....

M8E Djodjoyoshi plays with S2w Takakeisho.

Takakeisho has stated that he is aiming to return to Ozeki - so could a double digit KK be in the cards?

M4E Gusoyama needs something from J8e Asakoryu.

Looking at other parts of the banzuke, Asakoryu might be a bit miffed that he dropped from J4W --> J8E with a 6-9 record.

Last September, Midorifuji notched a 10-5 record, including eight-days straight of shiroboshi at the end of the basho!

M16W Kimyama will need to cheer on J14e Kayo.

Just Kayo's second basho in Juryo. Last time out, he secured his MK on the final day. Ooops.

M12E Gaijingai must hope for good things from M9e Ichiyamamoto.

Ichiyamamoto has never had a KK in the single digit Makunouchi ranks. Eek.

M3E Baku (my youngest son) will need to learn about M2w Oho.

Actually, no need, as Oho is one of his favourites (he likes all of the three letter shikona rikishi!). This is Oho's highest rank. Surely he is good enough to make it to sanyaku?

M5E Ganzohnesushi receives Y1e Terunofuji.

In the past six bashos, Terunofuji has won two yushos, withdrawn from two, and did not turn up for day 1 for two.....  so either a blessed pick, or a poisoned chalice...?

S2E Bunbukuchagama draws M17e Nishikifuji.

How on earth did Nishikifuji remain at M17E with a 6-9 record? Well, can he prove that he deserves to remain in Makunouchi?
