Sumo Spiffy 535 Posted July 25 (edited) Well, now we know that if you hit eight wins, your ass is getting yeeted all the way up the chain, never mind whether or not it's likely you're actually contending for anything... Obviously this is with the caveat that the regular scheduling pattern would result in too weak of a matchup, but still, I wasn't sure if they'd wait another day to see if there was much point to any of it. There's still not much of a race, so it still seems less likely than before. They might wait on account of Hoshoryu's kyujo, but the schedule lines up to replace him with Takanosho anyway, so maybe not. Edit: We'll never know for sure, but my headcanon is that we were all right about Sadanoumi, and now this makes them shuffle the whole lineup, so Atami fights Kotoshoho, Gonoyama fights Sadanoumi, and Ura gets Tamawashi. Hiradoumi wasn't needed to play host to the 'chasing' maegashira since with Hoshoryu's withdrawal Takanosho was the next maegashira up naturally for Terunofuji and Onosato was available for Churanoumi. No one else needed bringing up. Thus Hiradoumi goes back to his joi scheduling. I was looking at losing vs. winning records, but they usually wait until guys are KK before bringing them up, so it makes sense they'd wait until someone is definitely MK before avoiding these matches.
