Guess Ura's Aite - July 2024 edition

I don't quite get it. On the one hand we have K1e vs. M1w and K1w vs. M2e, and on the other hand M4e vs. M7e and M4w vs. M6w when both could have gone either way. I guess @Sumo Spiffy and @Bunbukuchagama are equally puzzled.

I see it now. I had Hoshoryu/Abi and just blanked on the possibility of Takakeisho/Abi. I spun through a ton of different intra-sanyaku lineups and didn't attach that one to the two obvious ones.

Doesn't help with my case though...

Edit: to make it more clear: why does Ura get Oho instead of Takanosho when the Komusubi matches are treated differently?

I got to Oho by following all of the hints that the experts have given, as being the 'normal' choice. My only worry was that records might now be taken into account, which explained why others before me landed on someone else....

I'll reiterate my points 2 and 3 above.

2. Paying attention to day, work out what method you need to use to assign the sanyaku aites
3. Paying attention to day, work out the maegashira matches.

Rule 1) Get the intra-sanyaku matches correct. :-)

I'll admit that I don't understand it in the same sense that I (and the physics community in general) don't understand why like charges repel and opposite charges attract.  But in both cases I understand how they work, even if I don't know why beyond "that's just how it works".

The even day rule strikes again!

Edit: In order to not mislead, I should mention that with the three intra-sanyaku matchups I landed on—Teru/Kiri, Koto/Onosato, and Hoshoryu/Abi—that would have put Ura against Shonannoumi. But I thought it was possible they could mess with any pairing other than Teru/Kiri, and if that left Hoshoryu out, he'd get Shonannoumi. I also thought they might only do two intra-sanyaku matchups, rather than try to fit everything in. So, I took Takanosho as a safety pick, and it never crossed my mind that Takakeisho would fight a sanyaku (leaving Gonoyama open) without Hoshoryu also having one of those matches as well.

If I'd assumed they would have three, it was just a matter of which three, maybe I'd have gotten there.

Sure, but I have to assume it works differently for Sanyaku and Maegashira, and unlike Sakura and Gurowake, I won't have a clue next time.

Looking at the forum's calendar, guessing Meisei should have been very easy since it's his birthday on day 11. B-)
