Interestingly, most American Football stadiums run North/South so that neither side will have the sun in their eyes (I don't know about football/soccer stadiums, but everyone else does).  A running back that goes straight up the field (instead of running sideways to get around the end of the line) is called a "north-south" runner.  So, Hiro's term didn't sound strange to me; but dohyo's are different, aren't they?

He uses it quite a bit, but in the past I've always taken it to mean "all over the place". In today's commentary however he gave a clear exposition: it means linear motion (i.e. in this case east-to-west). I think Yamanashi's reasoning might be right.
