Recently married Kotoeko kyujo again - we can prepare his intai thread, like Yubinhaad had guessed in the kabu thread. Oguruma had said he wants to give way to an enthusiastic younger one. o

So, I counted 14(!) Isegahama rikishi going kyujo. :-O This includes intai, I guess.

Probably many ex-Miyagino there.

Not mutually exclusive with intai, but there's at least three long term injuries in that list.

Lower division absentees now in the top post. I marked out the ex-Miyagino rikishi, no doubt a mix of actual injuries, some already quit and some still considering their future.

Otake-beya announced that Daishinkai has a knee injury, so his first bout on Day 2 will be a fusenpai, too late for inclusion on the advance kyujo list.

Which begs the question: how many of the former Miyagino are competing at all?

(...apart from Hakuoho, but I'm too lazy to check the rest...)

Why not query for it? ;-)

So 21 former heya members, minus 2 already intai minus 10 kyujo, 9 left to fight this basho.

Edit: Oh, can be improved. I didn't expect that to work but apparently the heya restriction is only evaluated for the first basho.

Is Enho soon intai? Is his injury untreatable?

Nobody knows for sure.

If you ask me - yes and yes.

Nikkan reports a pair of kyujo in Juryo on the opening day, J5w Kitanowaka and J7w Shimazuumi, although only the latter is on the Kyokai site at the time of writing.

Opponents Kagayaki and Shishi will get the easiest start to a basho with default wins.

Kitanofuji is again kyujo on NHK this basho, but at least that is still an important news item and not one that is forgotten. An Aomori duo for day 1, ex-Wakanosato with Mainoumi

I suppose we just need an achy sekiwakey to complete the sanyaku kyujo set now.

Terunofuji was somewhat expected but Takakeisho is a bit surprising. Granted, I'm not fully on top of how his recovery is going. But makes sense since he's safe this basho and can go for his 8 wins in the next. However it's a sign of how bad his injuries are that he's already dropping even the pretense of participating this basho.

After he sounded like he'll go through with the basho, no matter what

No news from Takakeisho after his participation at the soken, where he was 1-5 with the other ozeki: "In April I had a variety of treatments and trained my body. I have to do what can be done. I don't care about the condition of the neck, I'll be at the basho no matter if it's satisfactory or not."

Just out of and soon in kadoban again Takakeisho confirmed that he'll be at the basho, his pectoralis major muscle has healed.

The oyakata told that the old injury at the neck is the reason o

For Terunofuji it's the new injury at the flank that happened at the soken

Get injured while preparing for training

On 05/05/2024 at 09:13, Akinomaki said:

Terunofuji somehow injured his left flank during warming-up, something new adding to the other established injuries o - and he didn't train after that

There is no reason whatever to expect him to be at the basho

Hakuouhou injured his right arm in his loss today. "I heard a sound, maybe a muscle tear," he said, in pain. "It hurts a bit. I'm off to the hospital," he added.
