That first picture is magnificent – ex-Kakuryu looking cool in his tank top 'n' trunks, while Genghis Khan stares down from the wall.

Komusubi Asanoyama may be kyujo for Natsu. He hasn't been training since that knee injury he suffered at jungyo. "He has been concentrating on getting better and has not trained. He can't even do any shiko and is dragging his foot and cannot walk normally. He is still young though and has a long career ahead of him. so he needs to take this slowly and heal himself properly." said Takasago Oyakata, falling short of actually announcing Asanoyama's kyujo.

Why do you ask? He is not, obviously. He is a quarter Italian- his mother's sister.

Young and a long career ahead - at 30 years old that only applies to the likes of Kyokutenho and Tamawashi...

Kotozakura (still weird) trained today at home against visitors Daieishou Ouhou and heyamate Kotoshouhou, doing 14 straight bouts and going 9-5. He was observed trying all kinds of grips-migi yotsu, hidari yotsu, morozashi and hummus. Also worked on his stamina, going 14 rounds straight and all. "I'm working on getting better so that I don't enter the basho half-ready.. " he explained. It was the first time sekitori from other heyas came for degeiko since the banzuke was announced. Ouhou and Daieishou are both pusher-thrusters. "They are, but a bit different in style. I wanted to properly be able to face those type of rikishi," added Kotozakura (SW).

degeigo meet at Tokitsukaze-beya on the 3rd with 6 visiting sekitori and 2 at the heya, Tokihayate and Shodai

Kirishima 5-2 with Shodai and then a loss against Nishikigi - after that he quit - the neck isn't quite well. Losing like that to a Shodai in training (C) is a very bad sign:

ob_17610708.jpgo4.jpg

Hoshoryu after 12 bouts with 5 others (excluding Shodai) was 2-3 with Oshoma (they first came to Japan on the same flight), in total 13-4

with Mitakeumi, 3 with Meisei, who after the basho had surgery on his left ankle

Meisei first did 8 with others including Shodai and here Oshoma, who was 11-5 in all

Terunofuji is in pain due to participation in the soken, he had no bouts today and silently left after keiko. Isegahama told he wants to restart with bouts after recovery.

Hakuoho also did no bouts and left during asageiko. According to Miyagino the pain in his left flank has grown worse on the 3rd, but it is no obstacle for entering the basho. o

1) Daieishou Ouhou and heyamate Kotoshouhou

I had not realized how many Canadian rikishi there are.

2) Kotozakura may be the real deal – he explains and adds, while most of the other putzes merely sum.

Does Isegahama have to allocate dohyo time slots for his expanded heya? 5 minutes 23 seconds per rikishi?

I believe they're referencing the inserted "u"s in the shikona. We tend to use the British spelling for things rather than the American, so have kept the "u" in words like colour and honour.

In other words, you're spelling things correctly ;)

Sorry, too obscure.  Many Canadians pronounce words like "about" [abowt] like "aboat".  Here we have Japanese names which many romanize with an ō, while others (like you) use "ou".  So many English speakers would see the name Ouhou and pronounce it "Owhow", while these Canadians would more properly pronounce it Ōhō.

See, now that I've explained it, isn't it hilarious? (Thinkingindepth...)

"Aboot", I thought.

Never heard either version in 15+ years in Canada. (Sigh...)

I actually got it, and was referring to the belief that Canadians abuse the word "about" a lot which I guess in itself was obscure as well.
