Akinomaki 40,037 Posted April 23 (edited) The last Nagoya-basho in the old Arena this year - and with tickets again like in the good old times sold out within minutes after the start of official sales, the pre-advance sales lotteries start early: tomorrow the first of the 2 for the fanclub, only for sekiwake course and above members. The 2nd one that starts on May 1st is relatively easy to access - one only has to be a makuuchi course member for one month, which is quite cheap. The sales lottery for the public starts with the Natsu dohyo matsuri on May 11 and general sales on day 14 of the next basho, May 25th https://sumo.pia.jp/sumo07.jsp On 13/04/2024 at 22:22, Akinomaki said: On 08/02/2024 at 15:12, Akinomaki said: On 09/06/2023 at 12:56, Akinomaki said: The basho schedule for 2025 was released, with the new facility as (planned) location, called the Aichi International Arena https://www.sumo.or.jp/Admission/schedule/ And that Aichi International Arena already has sold the name rights to an international investor: IG group holdings bought it and the name will be IG Arena The basho this year will for the last time take place in the Dolphins Arena. The NSK will have a special event before the Last Nagoya basho in the old arena, the first was 59 years ago. The 5 makuuchi rikishi above will do free throws with 5 members of the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins basketball team. Free entry for 3000, who have to apply for tickets This event is for fanclub members only, including those of the free juryo course, first only for those in the Tokai area (or who register with an address there) https://fanclub.sumo.or.jp/contents/738339 - of course also for the fanclub members of the Dolphins Club - 1500 each for sumo and basketball a kind of jungyo, it seems - full program: https://love-sportexpo2024.events.jungyo100.jp/ Edited July 13 by Akinomaki
Akinomaki 40,037 Posted May 30 Tickets for Nagoya are not yet sold out - except those for ordinary chair seats: only a few for wheelchairs on day 3 are left, for masu seats, 5 days have plenty left, 5 others only a few. https://sumo.pia.jp/vacant/va07.jsp The poster for Nagoya looks a bit like wishful thinking - Abi is apparently really popular now o Now many are doing PR by holding that poster, Kotozakura, Daieisho ... - but not Abi (yet?) 1

Akinomaki 40,037 Posted June 10 (edited) Tickets are completely sold out now. Nagoya chief Dewanoumi on the 10th for the last time has opened the advance offices in the Dolphins Arena, the whole Nagoya team has arrived. They have an extra task this time, to meet with those concerned - thanking those for the old venue, greeting those for the new IG Arena next year. o o Hope is that Onosato again gives a swell performance - his vigour against the pride of the miserable top now is the expectation for the action this basho. Akinomaki 40,037 Posted June 19 (edited) The gomen fuda for the last Nagoya basho in the Aichi pref. gymnasium before it will be closed down was put in place today at the venue. Chief Dewanoumi, debut and intai in Nagoya, repeated that the highlight for the sold-out basho will be how many wins Onosato can get again after his first yusho and if the y/o can show their pride - against him ooo the Nagoya team: Kumagatani (Tamaasuka), Chiganoura (Satoyama), chief Dewanoumi (Oginohana), Wakafuji (Otsukasa) and Mihogaseki (Tochisakae) o o o o o o o vid Edited June 19 by Akinomaki

Akinomaki 40,037 Posted June 24 (edited) For the basho, the Aichi governor award will have 10 000 boiled and ready to eat quail eggs attached this time - Aichi pref. is the main producer (since 1985), and because they don't sell right now after a 1st year primary school student died, choking on one in his o-den school lunch, the winner gets a bunch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5hSkBxSSc8 I thought that's quite a big number of these tiny eggs, but in 2009 the award had 50 000 of them - maybe some other scandal brought sales down even more then. After that no quail eggs for the winner and since 1985 otherwise only one time in 1992 On 17/10/2020 at 15:53, Akinomaki said: Aichi governor: (1992) 2009: 50 000 boiled quail eggs, 2010 canceled due to the gambling scandal, like all extra awards, (1986, 1999, 2004/7/8) 2011-18, 2020-: Nagoya kochin 名古屋コーチン chicken: 100kg meat, 1000 eggs, 2019 Mikawa pork - 5 whole. Other times 500kg asari clams (2001) or unagi (1987) - it varies each year ->list of awards 1985-2010 also in the award: a bouquet of 200 flowers, as PR for flowers from Aichi pref., the flower kingdom Edited June 24 by Akinomaki

"One of the biggest in Asia" is overselling it -- there are 314 sports venues in Asia with capacities of 30,000 or more, including Narendra Modi Stadium at 132,000, or roughly 11 times the size of IG Arena, so calling either place "one of the biggest" isn't really accurate. Of course the count is only for halls - Saidaikyu最大級 is the category "biggest" and was just in the title of the article, without giving any details later on. Tsuchinoninjin 1,261 Posted June 29 Going by max capacity it would be 18th biggest indoor 'hall' in Asia (for some reason covered stadiums are counted separately, even if the stadium uses the same girder concept to hold the roof. I can understand dome construction separated but otherwise somewhat grey). By sumo capacity it'd be 48th in Asia. In North America it'd be somewhere in the 150s going by max capacity, so probably why some people will think its strange to brag about the size.
