Kaioshoryu 62 Posted July 26 How long can Takakeisho go on? In my eyes he really looks unwell, and with that neck injury I'm dreading some permanent damage could occur for him.

Benihana 1,901 Posted July 26 (edited) It's a bit surprising, that Geido had only 3 basho (33/30) more as Ozeki, than Takakeisho. And he had only 1Y and 2J, while Takakeisho has 3/5. Maybe i see Takakeisho as lesser Ozeki, because he didn't have the competition like Goeido. Goeido had to put up with Hakuho, Kakuryu, Harumafuji, Kisenosato, Kotoshogiku, Terunofuji, Takayasu, Ichinojo and Tochinoshin in their prime. Most of these were gone or in decline, when Takakeisho claimed the title, which shouldn't have been in his reach in the first place. I've got no problem with the person Takakeisho and i wish him all the best, but i'll never miss Ozeki Takakeisho. Edited July 26 by Benihana

At the start of Goeido's 15-basho string as Sekiwake there were six (!) Ozeki sucking Oxygen out of the air, in addition to Hakuho.
Asapedroryu 227 Posted July 26 I don't understand the dislike for Takakeisho and some people being happy that he lost his rank due to injuries. This is a guy that has a natural physical disadvantage against most people he his competing against, but still managed to become the second best non-Yokozuna in history in terms of titles (the most important metric in any sport). Instead of being praised he is criticized for what he achieved...

Some of us were on the Takakeisho train from early on and appreciate what he's accomplished (and hope he can still somehow regain his Ozeki rank and carry on). Katooshu 3,138 Posted July 26 (edited) 12-3D/12-3 Y at ozeki, he wasn't far off the highest rank either. I always wanted to see him try a yokozuna dohyo-iri with those stubby limbs - I guess this is the closest image we'll have to it Edited July 26 by Katooshu
Fashiritētā 169 Posted July 26 Takakeisho should rest for a year and a half and just do keiko with no contact to stay in shape, he has a dohyo in the basement ,he’s only 27 , would still be under 30 when coming back. Im a fan , and that's the only thing i can think of to extend his already stellar career.
Tsuchinoninjin 1,249 Posted July 27 It’s basho like these that make me glad I don’t play the games so much anymore, I would have lost my mind. No way to tell if Terunofuji is able to barely move or is coming out swinging. Takanosho in 2nd after years of being invisible? Honestly. 4 hours ago, Asapedroryu said: I don't understand the dislike for Takakeisho and some people being happy that he lost his rank due to injuries. He boiled chicken breast and broccoli in nothing but pure water then had the audacity to complain it was bland. Did he never watch the guys make chanko even once???

just_some_guy 259 Posted July 27 So next basho we've got... Asanoyama, Takayasu, Shodai, Kirishima, Takakeisho (temporarily at least), and Mitakeumi in the "fallen Ozeki crew." Did I forget anyone? I don't know what the record is but dang, that's a lot of Nozeki. 2

Akinomaki 39,909 Posted July 27 (edited) While tabloid Weekly Post expects intai on (also temporary) demotion http://www.news-postseven.com/archives/20240726_1980346.html the shisho declared that Takakeisho will be trying to get the 10 next basho - and that he'll stay in the basho this time, to get 2 more wins for at least a good finish. "Resting would make him lose his sumo sense" http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2024/07/27/kiji/20240727s00005000123000c.html Edited July 27 by Akinomaki

Katooshu 3,138 Posted July 27 (edited) Takanosho vs Onosato tomorrow, with a sansho on the line for Onosato and a potential playoff for Takanosho? What are we thinking? Edited July 27 by Katooshu
Kaninoyama 1,694 Posted July 27 (edited) Takanosho has made senshuraku interesting. Or at least given us the illusion that it might be. Edited July 27 by Kaninoyama
Akinomaki 39,909 Posted July 27 (edited) So we have shukunsho for Takanosho, ginosho for Hiradoumi. Kantosho for some of Onosato, Churanoumi, Wakatakagake - likely on win for most. Could also be shukunsho for the winner of Takanosho-Onosato and kantosho fix for Takanosho. Edited July 27 by Akinomaki
Akinomaki 39,909 Posted July 27 (edited) Excellent torikumi both in juryo and makuuchi https://www.sumo.or.jp/EnHonbashoMain/torikumi/1/15/ - I tried hard to find something to criticize, but didn't Edited July 27 by Akinomaki
RabidJohn 1,668 Posted July 27 I'm not a great fan of trips/leg sweeps, but Tobizaru did it with such panache today I had to enjoy it. Wow, Takanosho practically immobilised Terunofuji with that nodowa at the tachi-ai, and carried it through perfectly. What an emphatic win!
Akinomaki 39,909 Posted July 27 Waka's sansho (no prediction) Comeback-sho for Wakatakakage Kantosho Churanoumi, Takanosho Ginosho Hiradoumi
Koorifuu 886 Posted July 27 Second straight Hokutofuji bout that looks straight out of shokkiri. He snatched victory from the jaws of defeat yesterday when Oshoma went for a stop that his brakes weren't powerful enough to handle, and now there was... that, where Kotoshoho and himself just clattered clumsily and awkwardly into each other at the tachiai and stumbled down. He might still be getting a few wins but sadly it doesn't look great long term overall.
