I didn't see it but you're not alone, dingo mentioned it yesterday. Really surprised to see how easily Onosato dealt with Kotozakura, quite a similar ending to his batch with Kirishima but no doubt about the result this time.
Benihana 1,901 Posted May 17 (edited) Damn, no Takarafuji zensho yusho Btw, this was the first time since 2017.03 he started with 5-0 and only the second time in his whole sekitori career. 2017.03 ended in a 7-8 after he lost the next 6 bouts. Bunbukuchagama 688 Posted May 17 6 hours ago, Gunslingerx said: Back to the subject, though, I have a follow on question: who believes he can keep it going and get his first cup? He’s been known to take confidence and then fight better from beating someone ranked higher than him, and confidence seems to be his primary motivational inspiration which reeling off a whole bunch of wins has got to I still in him. Mitakeumi was looking imperious prior to today, just outclassing everyone he’s faced. Surely that win in particular will give him some cause to be confident, even though he’s not ranked as high as Ura these days. I mean, I want him to win so friggin much and I’m kind of just trying to convince myself here. Anyone else convinced by my dodgy logic? Ura started the basho wrestling rikishi he has a good record against. Soon, his opponents will all be sanyaku or top Maegashira (Daieisho, Atamifuji, Gonoyama); this will be the real test. ArsionTrueHeart 0 Posted May 18 If Onosato gets 10+ wins this time (which is very likely), would he be on an ozeki run in July considering that he faced and beat sanyaku-level opponents in March?
RabidJohn 1,663 Posted May 18 I'm greatly relieved that Kirishima is kyujo, although in terms of recuperation before his 10-win last chance next basho he'd probably have been better off not entering at all. Araisho-san appears to have a much better attitude to dealing with injury. I noticed Wakamotoharu rubbing his toe yesterday and he's out - no bloody stupid gambarizing. Onosato looks absolutely the real deal - no obvious weaknesses, and way more dangerous on defense than I expect from someone so young. Barring injury... Ura's problem is a lack of belief in himself. He talked himself out of sanyaku last time, and today he gave up an advantageous position to lose unnecessarily. Oho's manhandling of Hoshoryu was even more impressive than his kinboshi last time, IMO. I'd love to see him get consistent.

Akinomaki 39,770 Posted May 18 Humpta gyoji Kimura Hideaki also has other special phrases: for a matta an ordinary gyoji calls mada-mada to stop a bout, he uses haa-ha - the nokotta is now at nokot-otta nokot-otta.
