Strange, can't remember *any* picture with him smiling.

He's the life of the party when featured on Dosukoi Sumo Salon, always smiling and joking!

Looks like Ura paid some tribute to him today with Ashitori win :P

All I thought when he did it was, "He hasn't done that for ages."
Now you've got me wondering whether or not it was a coincidence.

Whoever was doing commentary on Grand Sumo Highlights that day mentioned the connection. That's how I at least found out Terutsuyoshi retired.

I completely forgot that the danpatsushiki was planned for today - the usual about 300 cutters in the kokugikan.

I saw on Twitter that apparently he got divorced, which is why the sister was on tie duty :'-(

Straight from the another sekitori marriage thread, as posted by Akinomaki in August 2022 (I would quote but I'm on my phone and don't know how). Seems like he not only intai-ed from sumo but also his marriage.

Terutsuyoshi's wife Kana, born Goto, is a classmate of the daughter of Isegahama-oyakata, 31 years old - he's 27, she's reported as (a little over) 3 years older - running 3 restaurants, from graduate school of a famous private university (=Keio or Waseda). Isegahama's daughter had told him "I want you to meet somebody", they dined together, watched baseball together and it developed into a relationship. They registered the marriage on August 10th. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/202301050000690.html

Still nothing about the final dohyo appearance of Terutsuyoshi. The side program had like for Ishiura an Isegahama below juryo tournament: they have enough rikishi for a larger event.

Final von by Satorufuji, vs. Shinhakuho.

Now doing the standard thing: going into MMA: he'll fight Korean Yi Song (?) ウィ・ソンオ (recommended by Bob Sapp) at Ganryujima Virtual Survival 2 on Sep. 7th - with the fighting name Terutsuyoshi

Spot with him at the top, some training impressions

Thankfully the Ganryujima rules aren't standard MMA, and generally have a ringout rule allowing rikishi to do a bit better than they tend to do in organizations like RIZIN - three push outs in a round while one fighter remains in the ring is considered a match win. I actually really like what they do, even if I'd prefer a bit more ground work. Definitely a fun organization, and as far as options go it's likely the best one for him (even if it's not going to set up much of a career).

Probably that guy ^ Lee Sung-Oh. The Korean pronunciation for 이성호 sounds a lot like ウィ・ソンオ.

More likely this one, as per Kamitsuumi's supplied reading: https://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/fighters/199304-sung-oh-wi

The fight history looks nearly non-existent for both. (Might just be a lack of data available to Tapology, though?)

The Ganryujima channel posted a documentary on Terutsuyoshi - from ozumo to MMA - sumo only mentioned, else training

For the fight I'll create a Terutsuyoshi activities topic

Will update with my commentary on the match later today so as not to spoil for those that want to watch the match without knowing the result.
