Terutsuyoshi Intai

Recommended Posts

Interesting that the NSK gets this announcement out before major newspapers. No indication in the post that he is staying with the NSK, or else they'd list his toshiyori kabu. Wonder what he'll be doing post sumo.

Because he is now not a sekitori? He also needs to get his health back. Did some reports say that he has uncontrolled diabetes?

Had my picture taken with him when Isegahama-beya came to train in my hometown. He said, in broken English: "Smile. Always Smile."

Became a fan right there and then.

お疲れ様でした.

Strange, can't remember *any* picture with him smiling.

Maybe he misunderstood the meaning of "smile"? (Though he was smiling in our photo.)

Rumour was that he lost control of his diabetes (again). Probably decided it was all too much, along with the middling results since dropping down.

Hope he has a good post-sumo life.

22 basho in makuuchi, including a jun-yusho and 13 in juryo - much better than the 4+30 of Asahisho (Kiriyama) and several others, but oyakata and supporters apparently couldn't provide him with a kabu.

The intai press conference is tomorrow. o

Is that a lack of funds or lack of available kabu?

Great shame if he wanted to stay on.

He really didn't strike me as an oyakata type, so I'm not surprised.

Re-bleach the hair, maybe.

I've always thought of him as having a cheerful disposition, possibly due to the jungyo photos that Herouth used to post of him tweaking Akiseyama's nipples etc...

Here's a nice smile from his juryo promotion.

No way he stays with the Kyokai after he singlehandedly put them in the red by running the salt bill through the roof, pun intended.

As for the future, surely a chef at a restaurant since he knows his way around salt .

I hear he is moving to Salt Lake City.

Ok, I'm going now.

Terutsuyoshi debuted in Sumo along with Kagayaki and Takanosho. He was the 3rd youngest man to make Makushita after Takanohana and Kisenosato, shame he never really made a bigger splash. Since he was a career-long assistant of Terunofuji this seems like a preview of a much bigger Intai.

For a small rikishi he had a very good career. 22 makuuchi basho is more than many have managed. Wish him good luck with his future endeavours!

Maybe he'll start a salt importing business? ;-)

I wish him a long and happy life, even happier if he hears almost no salt jokes.

The press conference today with Isegahama-oyakata, the danpatsu-shiki is planned for June 23rd. No plans yet: "I joined after middle school and haven't seen anything but the sumo world. I want to see various worlds."

No tears, it seems. Looks like he might've been comfortable with the decision. That's very good.

Did he ever mention why he likes to throw that much of salt? The more salt the more purification = better dohyo luck?

Cause every meal his wife told him too much is unhealthy.
