Even in the dark ages of the OBSC it never happened. No way. It was lousy sumo from Kotonowaka, and you're acting as if that can't ever happen. I'm glad you said it. Can't believe the reactions I'm reading.

He's on his way. Four basho in as a newly minted Ozeki. Never a kadoban and double-digit wins in each of his last three. Still well on track to eventually become the Yokozuna we're all expecting him to become. And he's still only 24. 4

Raishu 208 Posted March 22, 2024 (edited) Not sure if someone else saw it, but Takakeisho seemed to have some major neck issues again after the bout. He stretched it constantly and also swung and moved his arm as he tried to battle some numbness or so (also, he almost walked out of the arena and was advised by a yobidashi to take his spot next to the dohyo). I wouldn't be surprised to see him go kyujo now, especially since he has secured his KK today. Edited March 22, 2024 by Raishu

I knew what was coming as soon as I saw Kotonowaka's face when they got ready. Welcome to the rank, baby. I'm sure some day you'll be the one to collect... 14 hours ago, Jakusotsu said: I suggest watching Shonannoumi-Nishikifuji closely. And I wouldn't be surprised if Endo and Tamawashi rehearsed that move. I doubt they'd let him compete with that, and if it turns out to be true we'd have another scandal at hand. 14 hours ago, Kaninoyama said: Watching Kotonowaka v. Takakeisho, it's the first time I ever had a certain thought watching sumo. The same thought others are hinting at above. Going to pretend it didn't happen. Yeah, that was brought up by the press (as part of coverage about why the torikumi committee picked Asanoyama as Takerufuji's next opponent, not an ozeki) , and Sanspo was also speculating that Takakeisho seemed to be hurting in the pectoral area after the bout. Edit: There's a fresh morning Nikkan report that confirms that he felt a lot of pain in his pecs. Edited March 23, 2024 by Asashosakari

Those silly loses in the beginning of the tournament... IMHO he's too self-aware. He knows he's tough, aggressive, gifted and strong and draws on that knowldge for building his self image in order to project dominance. In contrast to his uncle, who simply incorporated toughness, aggression etc. out of which his stage (and off-stage) persona followed without the intermediate step of reflection.
Yamanashi 3,840 Posted March 23, 2024 10 hours ago, Seregost said: Today Oshoma refused to give up, por once He finally looks healthy this basho. His last four tournaments have been all defensive Sumo, with slaps and pulls and arm grabs, etc. This time he's still cautious at the tachiai (that's his style), but he's much more aggressive during the bout. During his previous four basho (29-31) he won by pulls 15 times, Oshi 11, and only twice by Yorikiri; defeated by Oshi 15 times, Yorikiri 8, and throws 4 times. This basho none of his nine wins are by pulling. The Wakatakakage bout was well above his performance level for the last half-year.
