Would the banzuke guru’s promote TORCHBEARER Hatsuyama to Juryo, generating 15 days of TORCH matches?  The answer is not quite.

If there is an odd number of active sekitori on Day 1, Hatsuyama will have a Juryo opponent; if he loses to him, 15 days of matches becomes a possibility.

Assuming the torch can make it into Juryo, I should have a decent shot with J9w/J8w, but that can only score 34 end-of-year points (bulls eye + 9, as there are people who have both picks in between), so it'll have to get into Hakuyozan or Daishoho's hands for several days to get me a chance at first.  Sukubidubidu has the chance to land 50 year-end points though with managing to pick the rank that their rikishi pick Hakuyozan has for this basho, so I'll need the year-end bearer to be Daishoho to have a chance at first, but Sukubidubidu does have a chance at winning even if Hakuyozan never touches the torch until the end.

Jejima has a similar J13w/J14W lineup, which has a better chance for more year-end points than Benihana's Oshoumi pick with a J11e rank pick, though daily points might make up the difference.

Mt fuji is the only Nabatame supporter, and pick a similar rank relative to him as with Jejima and I - Ms1e/J14e.  While the Ms1e rank isn't going to win it, the Nabatame pick might if he holds it enough days.

Of the two Kotoeiho (Kototebakari) supporters, Chiyotasuke with rank pick J11e is in better position, but a bullseye for them won't score as well as the other three mentioned above due to further distance between the picks.  Munjeezy with a J7e pick might make up for it with more days held by their rank pick though.

Oshirokita is the only Wakaikari supporter, but with a rank pick high in Juryo (J6e) will need a lot more days of either his rikishi pick or Tohakuryu to hold the torch.

No supporters for Tsukahara/Tochitaikai, Daiseizan, or Chiyomaru, but a lot for Aonishiki.  Profomisakari with a J10w rank pick is best-placed among them for year-end scoring, but daily scoring clearly could be important with each of them on a different rank.

No supporters for Fujiseiun, but one person does have Onosho, which is a pretty fore-sighted pick, as most of us would have expected him to be ranked higher this basho at the start of the year.  Hoshihitomi's rank pick is Ms9w though, so he'll need a lot of daily scores to figure into things.

Daiamami has two supporters, with Jesinofuji having the closer rank pick of J5e vs Aled ap Tomos's J2e.

Wakatake is the only one with Mitoryu, but that goes with a Ms2w pick, so year-end points won't be nearly enough.

Shitamachi has Tsurugisho, and with a J6w rank pick is in the same place as me/Jejima/Mt Fuji.

Hidenoumi, Shiden, and Tohakuryu have no supporters. Tomokaze has multiple though, with Chankomafuji's rank pick of J5e being the closest and potentially netting 35 year-end points.

Gawasukotto has Shimazuumi, but with a rank pick in Makushita probably won't be getting more than the 25 bulls eye points for either pick.

Shimanoumi, in contrast, has no supporters, while Obana has Tamashoho but a very low Makushita rank pick.

No love for Kayo, but Shirokuma has four picks, with Taikoubana being closest in rank with J5e.

Hakuoho unsurprisingly got no picks, nor did Kagayaki, but Kinbozan did despite looking like a top division stalwart this time last year.  Joaoiyama's rank pick near the bottom of Juryo won't be getting him much chance in doubling up on year-end points though.

Kitanowaka had two picks, but the better of the rank picks is J8e, not likely to score much at the same time.

Going downwards into Makushita, the first rikishi picked headed downwards is Kaisho, but both supporters have fairly high Juryo rank picks.  The next is Asahakuryu, whose lone picker also picked in mid-Juryo for their rank.

chishafuwaku has the next Makushita picked, Kurohimeyama, and picked Ms7e for rank, and so being only one off is in the same position as Chankomafuji with good potential up to 35 year-end points, but problematically, that means Kyokukaiyu would score even more and thus those 35 points probably wouldn't be good enough.

Next we come to Kyokukaiyu.  If the torch ends up anywhere near him, his supporters will probably not be touchable.  If that's the case, then Andreas21 looks to be in control with the closest rank pick, and if it ends up this low it likely wasn't in Juryo much, so unlikely to score others many points.

Satorufuji is next among Makushitans picked, but the corresponding rank pick is in Juryo.  Next is Tenshoho, with the same sort of corresponding Juryo pick.  The same is also the case for Dewanoryu.  His backer Kuroikmori did pick near the end up Juryo, though not close enough to be able to double up year-end points.  Chiyoono supporter millwood picked his rank in Makushita, but too high to score points with more than one of his picks, while the other Chiyoono supporter is off even more in the top half of Juryo.

That's it for the extended promotion zone in Makushita.  Someone outside that promotion zone or even someone in Makuuchi might hold it still at year-end, but only Umigame among the high Juryo rank picks might reasonably score something for two relatively picks.  Among the low pickers, Tsukiko might score with both picks if the torch plummets given their Ms26e/Sd28 lineup, but Kirinoumi has an even closer pair of low selections with Ms25e/Ms30w and hakutorizakura is even closer with Ms24w/Ms21e and kot with Ms19e/Ms22w, but MumboJumbo is the best placed among such players with Ms16w/Ms17e.  Unfortunately, all of these suffer immensely from the fact that if the torch drops this low, it won't be for many matches, and thus not being able to score a double bullseye probably means they're not going to grab the lead.

Thus if the torch fails to make it to Juryo quickly, the Kyokukaiyu brigade is in good shape.  While Chishafuwaku might score a bunch of year-end points with Kusano or Kurohimeyama, if he does so, Kyokuakiyu will score his supporters enough to put them over the top most likely.  So long as there's not too many matches in Juryo, nothing but Sukubidubidu's scoring of a double bullseye with Hakuyozan will be able to get enough points to snatch it away from that pack.  If it does get into Juryo quickly though, there's a lot of places it could end up that might give someone else the win.

While my chances for a 2nd yusho in this game are all but gone (J7E Hidenoumi is 0-4), this has certainly been an interesting and exciting tournament this year.  The simplicity of entering is why I keep playing, but watching the game progress each year is a lot of fun.  Thank you Shimodahito for all the work you put into this game each year.  And Happy Holidays to everyone.

With an end-of-basho bullseye rikishi or rank, the 40-point leaders are technically in striking distance by the 20-point pack.  Here is the TORCH MATCH on nakabi:

RIKISHI
OSHOUMI vs DAISEIZAN

RANK
JURYO 14 WEST vs JURYO 12 EAST
