What a time to go pro.

At least he won't have to settle in twice. Matsui's timing was much worse.

Well, it will be Isegahama, he had planned to join where Kiho is member, his friend since nursery school. The NSK today acknowledged the ms60TD qualification for student yokozuna Naoya Kusano 草野直哉 (185cm, 160kg).

With his official shisho - usually the one for whom they are scouted comes for the uchi-deshi, but that is apparently also prohibited now for Miyagino. Isegahama came to Buntoku high for the entry press conference today

Kousei Motomura 元村康誠, all over the media with his spectacular win as 4th year in 2019 - of course he joins the boss of his team

After earlier only the video the local paper now published the article with it about Motomura

He had the farewell party on the 31st at Nanairo-no-yu onsen in Kitagatacho, Takeo, Saga, with about 70 guests related to the Kitagata sumo club and joins Sadogatake-beya as uchi-deshi of Kotoshogiku. At 161cm, 70kg (age 15) he is one of those to take the new physical ability test on the 19th and then the shindeshi kensa on May 2nd - he is also below the relaxed Haru standard height for fresh middle school graduates of 165cm, so he he would have needed the test also there.

Motomura is the only one who applied for the "secondary" exam - one after 12 years again. Then the secondary exam with physical ability test took place for those who only fulfilled the criteria that now are the standard, 167cm and 67kg, and not the standard then of 173cm, 75kg, which changed Haru 2012 and the secondary exam was abolished after 10 years - (one of) the first to join with that was Toyonoshima Hatsu 2002.

Now it is a pre-exam. Motomura this year at the Hakuho cup had 1 win in the middle school tournament, with 160cm, 65kg.

Haruku Tomiyama, the opponent of his fabulous 2019 bout is now 1st year at Tottori Johoku high - I found an old longer wide-show report on the 2 https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1xU4y157Dx/

Detailed report from the Buntoku high channel - he confirmed that he wanted to be together with Kiho in a heya, otherwise no mention of the heya situation. As the one of his aspiration who he always had aimed for he named the coach of Buntoku high there, student yokozuna 1987 Kouji Honda. He gives his data as 182cm, 155kg and wants to get to 165kg. His father (only heard) is glad that he at last joins ozumo, which he had waited for a long time (Buntoku apologized for the bad camera work)

Motomura of course passed the secondary exam today and will be at the main exam on the 2nd, just for the medical check - today the Heptathlon fitness test: back strength and grip strength as at the main exam, handball throw, sit-ups, standing long jump, side jumps, 50m dash

he measured 159.5cm, 67.6kg

From Meiji till Taisho there were the sekiwake Tamatsubaki with 158cm and Kohitachi with 159cm (very fittingly: the 7th Hidenoyama) o , but Motomura is the first post war rikishi below 160cm - height/weight requirements were introduced in 1932.  During middle school he drank 1l of milk each day and gained 20cm.

The test went over a period of about 20min, he managed 49 side jumps in 20s, ran the 50m dash in 7.91s, threw the ball 25.5m, grip strength right 55kg, left 50kg   ... Motomura was relieved when Takadagawa told him he passed. The criteria for the secondary exam are undisclosed.

Motomura at the Hakuho-cup this year made it to the 3rd round and was best 8 with the team at the national middle school championships o

Edit: Motomura lost all of his 3 team bouts in the best 32 tournament https://sumou.zenchuu.jp/result_2023/団体決勝トーナメント対戦表/

last bout, qf

heavily bandaged - Hidenoyama wants to focus on not having him get wrecked

He won't really have to worry too much about side jumps and 50m dashes from here onwards, will he?

It gets even more crowded at the biggest heya now: Rion Matsumoto 松本莉音  (18, 175cm, 140kg), recently graduated from Hiryu high joins Isegahama-beya, where several sempai are, mainly Atamifuji and Midorifuji and this Hatsu Suzunofuji joined. He's from Fujinomiya, started sumo as 4th grade and wanted to join ozumo since middle school. After graduation he continued to train at the school, he first wanted to properly heal his left ankle, injured in summer of his first year.

Today the oyakata was at the school for Matsumoto's entry press conference: "Again from Hiryu, I'll put up a small sign next, Hiryu-beya"

Asked about a shikona with something Fuji: "Fujinomiya" - "Miyanofuji maybe"

Matsumoto wants to do forward moving sumo like Takakeisho. His best result is best 16 with the Hiryu team at the kokutai in 3rd year.

The Mongolian is Baatar Munkhod バータル・ムンクオド (18), ryugakusei at Hokkaido Sakae high -  the club page has his results: https://www.hokkaidosakae.ed.jp/pages/125/ - his best apparently runner-up at the Hokkaido interhigh

The coach is a classmate of Goeido at Saitama Sake high, thus he joins Takekuma-beya.

likely the one on the left

If you need the kanji readings, DOB, or 出身 (本・現) for any of them let me know.

I obviously can't post internal documents, but the information within I can share / clarify.

Apparently the NSK bureaucracy isn't able to transfer the results of the secondary exam to that of the main one: Motomura again was measured in all ways and not was just there for the medicals as reported by the papers. Of course he didn't and all other 9 present cleared the requirements of the main exam and all 10 wait for the medical results to be announced on day one as having passed the exam.

in line with 188cm Endo and 173cm Yamada

Looks like the NSK had a specific reason to repeat his measurements: they didn't want to have a rikishi below 160cm. Today Motomura measured 160cm and 68kg http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2024/05/02/kiji/20240502s00005000514000c.html

The 2 for Sakaigawa, Igarashi and Miyazaki - both Nichidai, but Daiki Igarashi 五十嵐大喜  (19, 190cm, 133kg) in the judo club nichidai-judo.com/judoist_detail.html?id=0000236 and quitting in first year. He has no sumo experience but "I'll rise up, I'm confident". Miyazaki wants to reach makushita within a year and quickly get to sekitori. About club mate Kusano: "I want to catch up with him on the spot. Intense keiko is the only thing for that"
