I'm sure he won't join for Haru - he wants to decide which heya he goes to till March: student yokozuna Kusano from Nichidai and Buntoku high declared that he'll join the pros

He was at the start of keiko at Buntoku high, where he was captain when the team won at the interhigh in 2019. He wants to go like a shindeshi with the feeling to start from the bottom on (he'll hardly really forfeit the ms60TD start though). He wants to become a rikishi that is loved by the fans and aim for the absolute top

Kindai announced today that student championships yusho team members Taiki Mita 三田大生（みたたいき） (22, 173cm, 120kg) for Futagoyama and Kazuma Yamazaki 山崎勝磨 （やまざきかづま） (22, 177cm, 166kg) for Tatsunami join ozumo - 24th and 25th from the club to join. Mita is an exciting recruit. He is a small (more Ishiura than Enho) but very quick and skillful competitor with a wide range of skills. Even does the nekodamashi. He was West Japan champion, won a national weight class  title, and had 2nd, 3rd, and 5th places finishes in national openweight competitions. He earned several sandanme tsukedashi under the old qualification system prior to his Ms60TD. His father is a sumo coach and he's being competing since little.

Here he is on the right in a wild bout at the 2023 student championship vs individual champ Kusano. Yamazaki goes later in the match around 6:40.

Yamazaki is a fairly basic, but technically sound yotsu competitor who uses his heft to his advantage. Think a shorter Daiamami or Daishoho. He had good results in college and even beat Onosato once in a tournament final (although also lost to him many times). He was good in high school too, and ranked as komusubi on the mikawa's high school banzuke back in those days.

Yamazaki plans to have his debut at the Natsu basho, but Mita still is doing rehabilitation from the injury at the All Japan, he wants to have his start Aki or even in Kyushu. He had surgery on his left knee in January.

Mita's father is acquainted with Futagoyama since student times, Mita from early on thought: "For me there is only Futagoyama-beya". He aspires to become like Wakatakakage with his speedy sumo. o

Mita is from Ohtawara, started with sumo age 5, as Kurobane high first year he won the 80kg category at a national select tournament - he had only 60kg when he entered high school and was above 100kg when he graduated there. In 2nd year he was 3rd in lightweight at the junior world championships and the next year became middle weight junior world champion.

If he joins for Aki, he'll be ms60TD, for Kyushu that qf from the student championships has expired and he'd start as sd90TD from the All Japan.

Yamazaki's SdTd start was approved by the rijikai today (Sanspo).

The shindeshi examinations for Natsu basho are to be conducted on May 2, but will be preceded on April 19 by the first administration of the re-introduced athletic ability tests for applicants who do not reach the 167 cm / 67 kg standard minimum marks, as announced last September. (IIRC they were supposed to happen before every Tokyo tournament, but unlike Hatsu basho they presumably know that somebody's actually incoming this time.)

After earlier only the video the local paper now published the article with it about Motomura

He had the farewell party on the 31st at Nanairo-no-yu onsen in Kitagatacho, Takeo, Saga, with about 70 guests related to the Kitagata sumo club and joins Sadogatake-beya as uchi-deshi of Kotoshogiku. At 161cm, 70kg (age 15) he is one of those to take the new physical ability test on the 19th and then the shindeshi kensa on May 2nd - he is also below the relaxed Haru standard height for fresh middle school graduates of 165cm, so he he would have needed the test also there. Motomura started sumo in 2nd grade and in 4th year became known - worldwide - for his performance at the Hakuho-cup. It gets even more crowded at the biggest heya now: Rion Matsumoto 松本莉音  (18, 175cm, 140kg), recently graduated from Hiryu high joins Isegahama-beya, where several sempai are, mainly Atamifuji and Midorifuji and this Hatsu Suzunofuji joined. He's from Fujinomiya, started sumo as 4th grade and wanted to join ozumo since middle school. After graduation he continued to train at the school, he first wanted to properly heal his left ankle, injured in summer of his first year.

The Shizuoka sumo Federation put him at m11 in the high school category on their 2022 prefecture banzuke (without east and west - the article  o is gone by now) - the last among the 11 there from Hiryu - the banzuke goes till m12

Two new tokoyama have joined, both 15 years old.

Tokosakura (床桜), Minato-beya. From Ichinomiya, Aichi prefecture.

Tokokasumi (床香澄), Nishonoseki-beya. From Kashiwa, Chiba prefecture.

There was a trainee gyoji visible in the background of early morning footage of both Hatsu and Haru basho, but maybe he's not ready to start officially yet as there's no change to the Kyokai's gyoji list.

Well, it will be Isegahama, he had planned to join where Kiho is member, his friend since nursery school. The NSK today acknowledged the ms60TD qualification for student yokozuna Naoya Kusano 草野直哉 (185cm, 160kg). Very interested in how things play out at a stable that is so packed with rikishi, and in particular so many high performing ones. They could have a dozen sekitori and another 10 in makushita soon.

I mean, they already have 7 (and 10 with sekitori experience). Kiho and Tenshoho were recently in juryo and have the ability to return, and Kusano is pretty much a sure thing if he can stay half healthy. Between the rest there are plenty of solid prospects too.

Kiho's foot is a mess, and he is deep in the lower divisions. Tenshoho is a disappointment. Satorufuji is  not ready yet.

By the time somebody gets up, Terunofuji and/or Takarafuji might retire. A dozen sekitori is not likely to materialize.

Kusano, Matsui, Tenshoho, Kiho, and Satorufuji are all good prospects to make juryo in the next year or so. Hayatefuji was close before and may return to form as he continues his comeback. Enho.....who knows, but he has the ability if he's recovered. Demi is good too though will probably take a few years.

It's not much of a stretch really when they have 7 there already and 10 who've been there, especially if quality of training improves. How about -  close to a dozen sekitori.
