2024 Saga kokuspo kokutai sumo

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

The 78th Saga 2024 kokutai kokuspo sumo events are in Genkai town, from Oct 6th-8th. Local mascot Komazou-kun did PR for it at the venue, published today. From now on it's called kokuspo - for kokumin sports taikai instead of kokumin taiku taikai like till last year and in English The Japan Games https://www.saga2024.com/en/ (maybe not for sumo though)

The town has put up a page with sumo trivia https://www.town.genkai.lg.jp/site/saga2024/list35.html

The One-Year-Before PR event was on Nov. 5th, with 3 Naruto-beya rikishi and urakata at the local wanpaku tournament - Oshoma as mage making model (by Tokuo) and taiko by Kenta

The heya has its Kyushu base there now, the oyakata declared that he will be at the kokuspo sumo event(s) - of course looking for new recruits.

Edit: no sumo at all on the main Japan Games site https://www.saga2024.com/ and JapangamesTV site https://japangamestv.japan-sports.or.jp/saga/

Sumo is only on the Genkai site https://www.town.genkai.lg.jp/site/saga2024/

Sumo is also on the kokuspo site by now https://www.saga2024.com/kokusupo/seishiki/archives/18

Should rather be the 1st kokuspo and not the 78th not kokutai

The sumo trivia page has grown longer as well https://www.town.genkai.lg.jp/site/saga2024/list35.html

It has no info yet about the title to be obtained now at the event - used to be kokutai yokozuna, kokuspo yokozuna sounds awful, but that likely will be it.

The Japan Games TV / Kukospo Channel site has no Saga page any more, the kokuspo site has an English page now, without useful content so far https://www.saga2024.com/en/

Regarding the pose by the Tairadate sumo club for the interhigh - everybody does that as PR for the kokuspo and similar sports events https://www.saga2024.com/news/

On the 16th Yehor won the high school open weight category at the Nagasaki pref. championships in Saikai, which gives him a spot at the kokuspo juniors (formerly kokutai juniors)

And Yehor has the honour to carry the flag for Nagasaki prefecture at the kokuspo (Japan Games) opening ceremony on the 5th, according to the pref., the first time a foreigner was chosen for this (with the one for the handicapped sports event that takes place at the same time)

Yehor lost in the 2nd and 3rd round of the prelims

He appears at 2h54m5s with the flag and the Nagasaki team in the opening ceremony video https://japangamestv.japan-sports.or.jp/kyougi/shikiten/6008

Yehor is huge but doesn't have the strength to match it. In his second match a small opponent went head to head with him and drove him out after a long battle, and in his third he was shoved to the ground by someone closer to his own size.

I don't know how to appreciate the now new commentator on the Kokuspo channel day 2 broadcast https://japangamestv.japan-sports.or.jp/kyougi/sumo/5782

- awful and noisy voice, often a nuisance, but the information are valuable, esp. for the name readings
